Local Authority devalued my property

Hi,
My Local Authority has recently refurbished a building directly opposite my home which will be used for drug and alcohol addict rehabilitation, and for battered wives.
They have installed 4 security cameras and there will be a police cell on the premises. Local estate agents have told me that it will have a material effect on the value of my property which I am now seeking to sell.
Would it be possible to claim against them for the loss in market value of my property?

Was their a planning application? Did you have an opportunity to object?
Not sure the process councils have to go through for things like this.0 -
Hi,
There was no planning application because it was previously being used as a community arts centre and there was no need to declare change of use.0 -
light commercial to residential?
I'd have thought so - unless the CAC was very unofficial.
Speak to a local councillor.0 -
You can't claim against anyone for any perceived loss of value.
Someone's going to be busy with a police cell, battered wives and drug and alcohol addicts all in one place. Are they building this centre near your bridge?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Where is this building?
I am going to sue the government as there is a police station near my road and all sorts of undesirables are coming and going at all hours. not only is it devaluing the house, but also my car!
how do you think I'll get on? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Mental illness is more common in the community than you think, use of the term loony bin is not nice. In fact you yourself are lowering the value with your discrimination slurs. Personally I think you need to read the diaries of George Orwell, may be it will open your eyes.
Property prices are falling anyway and will continue too. The four security cameras however will be a significant deterrent on crime in your close area.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

Agree with Brit, "looney bin" is tremendously offensive.
Mental illness might come for you or someone close to you one day. I hope the local community supports your health and recovery instead of petty nimbyism generated by the hearsay of an estate agent! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? One in four people will experience mental illness in their lifetime and one in six people are experiencing mental illness right now.0
