Slightly OT but I was not aware that the location battered wives were housed was a matter of public record for the very reason it can then be known by the husband where the wife has escaped to.0

Exactly. This is true.
Also the term "battered wives" is somewhat "old hat" now the term is victim of domestic violence or abuse.
Placing vulerable women at risk , in the same residential building as problems "drug addicts" or alcoholics ids also questionble. Refuges are almost always women only ( ie no men) and the description given seems to suggest some sort of dumping ground for "undesirables".
nice to see women abused by thier partners called "looneys" as well, v progressive. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I think everyone has slightly got off the topic of what was originally being discussed!
Kepharel, is it obvious that this building is for the use you described? I know its sneaky, but I wouldn't even mention it to prospective buyers if its not obvious, just highlight all the good features in your area.
If you don't want to do that, then find positive aspects of the rehabilitation centre being there i.e more police presence in area, reduced crime because of the cameras etc but i would only mention it if prospective buyers do.0 -
Where is this building?
I am going to sue the government as there is a police station near my road and all sorts of undesirables are coming and going at all hours. not only is it devaluing the house, but also my car!
how do you think I'll get on?
There may even be some criminals as well..............!If you want to go fast, go alone

Hi,
My Local Authority has recently refurbished a building directly opposite my home which will be used for drug and alcohol addict rehabilitation, and for battered wives.
They have installed 4 security cameras and there will be a police cell on the premises. Local estate agents have told me that it will have a material effect on the value of my property which I am now seeking to sell.
Would it be possible to claim against them for the loss in market value of my property?
Does anyone believe this?
Maybe it's an off licence/cigarette kiosk with a chippie next door
Do we still call them off licences? It seems really old-fashioned!If you want to go fast, go alone

Not an answer to your question and it must be awful for you.
But if your house is devalued because of this you could apply for a re-banding of your council tax. You, or your buyers, may get into a cheaper band and therefore save a bit of money each year?
