And being a striking member of a militant union is a better CV highlight?

who said anything about striking? however, striking has been an important tool in improving pay and conditions in the workforce. see the film made in dagenham for an example.

why do you use the term 'militant' to describe a union? it is merely an organisation for advancing collective interests. part of a healthy democracy i would have thought.

oh yes and that would go down very well with any future employer. fool.

An employer will pay a worker what they are worth to him, why should he have to pay any more than he wants to? The employee always has the option to resign if someone else is prepared to pay more.

The highest earning people I know have never been in a union.
  • Theres an unhealthy effect of living off an unearned income which generates a sense of resentment and entitlement.

In my observation this is basically the same whether its trust fund kids or career dolers. One has much more money than the other, but they both often end up with little respect for themselves or other people, and engage in lifestyles that are unfulfilling and quite destructrive.

I would like to see benefits cut quite a lot just because I honestly think it does people no favours to sit around doing nothing, and get paid for it. It has a terrible effect on your self image and is a terrible example for children.

Can't help thinking that London, the SE, East of England, SW (and ok may be the Midlands at a push) should go for independence from the rest of the UK. Imagine how little tax we would have to pay if we weren't supporting the other regions.

    Yeah.

We could call our new nation state The People's Republic of I'm All Right Jack.

And deport anybody who gets old, sick or unemployed.

There are 1.9M single parents caring for 3M children.

Around 50% are not working. that is 2.5M of the total straight away.

Wonder how many of them are divorced or widowed?
I believe there should be a distinction between the above and those that just chose to have kids that they know they have no way of supporting.

I don't know, the point was not to have a go at anyone, it was just showing how the 7 million looks massive until you break it down.

It is obvious single parents are more likely not to have a working member of the family regardless of how they are a single parent family.
