None of which are scummy benefit cheats living on council estates. I usually drink in more relaxed venues where people and friendly and talk to one another rather than busy pubs or clubs anymore.

I was in a shopping mall the other day minding my own business and waiting to meet a friend. I stood on the first floor, looking over the railing (as you do) at the people down below. Some fat chav girl with half a bakery sticking out the top of her jeans caught my eye and as I looked at her, she looked up at me, gurned like a toothless old crone and mouthed some obscenity seemingly oblivious or uncaring that she was in a busy shopping center.

I can't recall the last time a complete stranger was that rude. It stuck me at that moment that people with no money have a really, really bad attitude. The two things are intrinsically linked. Since then I have obseved this on many occasions, simply because I was looking for it.

You need to prefix a few of your observations with some....not all the residents of a council estate will be benefit cheats or scummy and not all people with less money than others will be rude or have a bad attitude.

I don't have a lot of excess pennies but I wouldn't dream of being rude to others, or insensitive, pull faces or even swear in public...my upbringing (and I think upbringing has more to do with it, regardless of how much money a family has), was better than that despite my parents not being particularly well off as is the way I have raised my own children.

You can have rude, obnoxious children and adults in well to do families, just like you can have rude, obnoxious children and adults in less well to do families.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

They reveal that almost four million households contain no one who has a job – meaning more than seven million under-65s live without any experience of employment.

    What's this all about?

I'm in those figure and OH will be on 1st October - we're 55 and early retired - have worked for almost 40 years each have private pensions of more than enough to keep us in comfort. No benefits - ever and are never likely to have any.

What a load.... typical Daily Mail.

This reminds me why I don't read it.

Do you mind if I ask what a private pension of more than enough to live comfortably is and how you achieved it at 55?

    Thanks.

Can't help thinking that London, the SE, East of England, SW (and ok may be the Midlands at a push) should go for independence from the rest of the UK. Imagine how little tax we would have to pay if we weren't supporting the other regions.
    I think....

thats a good point and i wouldnt necessarily disagree due to generalisations, but it seems to me when you have to work for a living, you learn how to engage with people, be polite, be a team worker, learn respect for yourself and others (even if you really dont feel it) because mostly you have to act that way to stay in a job, so then the act becomes reality even if you have got an underlying hatred of people or something!
so i get the point that possibly people who are not in work, never have been and dont have any expectation to be, may be lacking in social skills

i live in the south east and i suspect the figures for this area (east kent) would show huge unemployment

will these sigures include single women/widows who have retired at 60 after say 44 years working and quite legitimatly claim a state pension or families like my parents, mum a house wife and dad took early retirment at 58. They are 56 and almost 62 now and also do not 'work'. A guy I know has just had a heart transplant, did live alone although he is currently in hospital hopes to live alone again (well until he finds his special someone) I guess he counts as well but did work until ill health forced him to stop. Also what about students? Many move away from the family home to study, many early 20's and living independently and some have no need or wish to work. Possibly generous parents but in some cases people opt for a career change and use savings plus student loans to pay the bills while re-training so they would be there too.
