DD (13 next month) started on tuesday, she was thrilled lol. We had towels in anyway but she was adamant she wanted to try tampons as they would be easier (she wears a lot of skinny jeans/leggings type clothes). Anyway, we had a laugh in the bathroom over the tampons and she has found the small ones very easy to use. She does use towels at nights though.

I bought her a pretty makeup bag and put in some pantyliners, tampons, knickers, paracetamol and some Fremfresh wipes. She seems to be doing fine.
  • I remember mine: Started on my 9th birthday!! I used Always Ultra pads (the thin ones) til I got over my fear and then got Tampax mini with applicators which they DO still sell these days...they're not always (no pun intended!!) that easy to find though.

A mooncup is a great investment. Cheaper, cleaner and more hygenic by far.

For a young girl at school? I don't think so.

Can you imagine the ribbing they would get when they would need to rinse it under the tap?? Teenage kids can be very wicked and cruel.

And probably quite terrifying for a young girl ;)

No more terrifying than tampons IMO.

You dispose of a tampon and it's mess into the loo.

Where do you dispose of the mess with a mooncup???

You don't need to do this every time. A wipe with toilet paper is sufficient during the day. It really is no messier than having to wrap up a dirty tampon.

IMO they are. The last thing a young girl who has just started her period wants to be doing is fiddling round up there trying to get a cup in place, then washing the thing out in the school loo's. The size alone I imagine would put off most young girls.

I think you have to be physically and mentally in tune with your body to use mooncups and 11/12/13 year old girls rarely are.
