Yes in fact I bought mine less than 5 minutes ago from dixons tax free.
Cost £452.67
OK so you don't get the cash back and you have to collect it from an airport (which requires you to buy a flight ticket).
Advantages you still are buying from a real shop - not the internet (NB Jessops - in Cardiff - refused to price match this deal!) you can take the camera back to any Dixons (you don't have to return to the airport if you have problems).
If you want Dixons cover (not a chance in my case costs over £100) you get an extra £17.5% off.
Dealing with the airport problem. I bought my flights from Belfast Intl for 4p, with tax it came to less than £13. So total cost of the camera is £465. Note you don't need to fly - you can always walk straight back out of the airport and not use your boarding pass.
In my case I decided to make a holiday of it so booked a couple of days break for the wife and as the total flights came to only £25 each and we know people locally my total expense is
£550 which includes 2 peoples return flights from Cardiff to Belfast, 2 days car hire europcar (I think) and a Canon 400D with 18-55 lense. This was for travel during school half term (great because I'm a teacher).
Obviously if you didn't want the travel you just pay single person one way flight £13 + £452 = £465. Ofcourse if you are already due to travel then save the £13.
Hope this helps someone.

Finally I've arranged to pick mine up next week. If prices drop elsewhere I can get a refund in the airport, if prices increase in dixons next week I get mine for the lower price, if prices decrease in dixons next week I get mine for the lower price - they refund the difference.
Happy tax free shopping.
One last point - as someone is sure to ask - do you need to be travelling international - NO any flight qualifies. It isn't true duty free, dixons pay the duty for you (meaning if you want to - you can still get a VAT receipt and reclaim the tax again if you are flying abroad). There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -
Woah, I don't think I would have gone to all that trouble.
Anyway, I bought mine from jessops.com for around £507 + free photobag and also commission from my tradedoubler link, so it brings the price down to around £490.
I also got a free 256 MB memory card from the canon promotion online, it arrived really quickly!
I also bought a 4GB Sandisk Ultra II Compactflash card from Amazon.co.uk using a £20 voucher they gave me :T, only cost around £55.
But anyway, that's a very good tax free price!

I don't know if it's changed since but when I last checked back in June the Jessops internet price matching only applied to cameras2u and shopping4cameras.lightisfading wrote:Jessops will local price match and internet price match (must be actual UK stock, not imports a la pixmania) on the 400D.
They won't own up to it but a little bit of digging shows up that both are ultimately owned by Jessops plc.0 -
That's changed now
It now applies to most UK websites - ie not tax free ones, or grey imports.CrispyUK wrote:I don't know if it's changed since but when I last checked back in June the Jessops internet price matching only applied to cameras2u and shopping4cameras.

It wasn't that much trouble (as I already had the tickets booked) but in terms of total cost I didn't want to give the false impression that anyone could just buy for £452smsmasters wrote:I also got a free 256 MB memory card from the canon promotion online, it arrived really quickly!
How did this work - have I missed something? Is it already on here - or is it an offer that comes in the box? There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -

I called Customs today to check whether it would be possible to claim the VAT back, and they said that (even if you leave the EU) that it isn't allowed. The price you pay is final, despite the fact that the shop isn't strictly selling duty-free. The situation is different if you don't come back.0
