Hello KR15SNW
I leave mine on for upto 12 hours sometimes, so long as its on low it will be fine.
Packet mixes are ok to use, just use less water than it states as you won't lose any during simmering etc so if you put the whole lot in it tends to be a bit runny. Same with gravy etc.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
Yeah I would agree , packet mixes are fine. I often use them. Another cheat I have is using jars of curry sauce , plonk some chicken and veg in slow cooker , then add Jar of sauce. mmmmm Lovely. Something I often do on a sunday is cook a job lot of rice in my slow cooker and freeze into meal sized portions , that way when i get in from work my curry is simmering in the slow cooker ready to serve and all I need to do is stick rice in microThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

I use neck of lamb, pork belly and brisket as cheap cuts. Have a look at this website for some ideas.

it depends really. I have 2 butchers here and one is more expensive for mince and sausages but is cheaper for chicken and lamb. It should be cheaper though than Finest ranges. The beauty of slow casserole cooking too is that you can make the meat go further by adding more vegetables and pulses.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Hi all, although i'm not a regular poster on this board I read it religiously and i know you'll all be able to help.
I put a meal in the slow cooker this morning about 7am on low - planning to eat it around 6pm tonight. However, when i got home at 3pm the cooker was flashing and somehow had reset itself. Now, I know it was on until at least 12 o'clock so it had at least 5 hours cooking on low - then sat there for up to 3 hours. I have now put it back on again on high with a view to eating it around 6pm still.
My question is: having sat there for up to three hours before being switched on again - will it be safe to eat? Particularly important as I was planning on giving some to my 2.5 year old. For extra info, the meat is beef......
I would really appreciate your input and thoughts as I dont want to poison my family (not today anyway!! :rotfl:)0 -
I would have thought that so long as you get it piping hot before you serve it it will be fine. My DH used to work in a restaurant and always says so long as it gets to above 72 (I think) degrees C that;s high enough to kill any bugs.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0

Do you know if the high setting on a slow cooker is hot enough to do that?0
