Hi I am new to slow cooking! We got a slow-cooker for Christmas and also a recipe book - but having a flick through they all seem to require 10-20 minutes preparation (not just chopping things but pre-boiling them and frying them and things) directly before you put them into the slow-cooker.
My question - could I do this at night, bung them in, and switch it on in the morning? I am never awake enough in the morning to cook anything at all (even toast!!) and I can't leave it on all night and all day as well.
What does everyone else do?I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
Yes, you can prepare the night before.
As for browning meat first, it isn't really necessary - though people do say that things can taste nicer. I don't precook anything. I do the prep the night before. Bung everything in the slow cooker bowl and leave it in the fridge. In the morning I just give it a quick stir and stick it onto the base. I use a timer so that it does not come on till 11am on low. Dinner is ready for 7pm-8pm.0

I'm going to do chicken and mushroom casserole tomorrow. Can I wrap a couple of jacket potatoes in foil and put them on the top of the casserole to bake them or will they go all soggy? Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated.0

If wrapped carefully they should be OK. See...

I'm hoping someone can help...
I've got to be out early in the morning and won't have time to prepare the veg etc for a stew before I go, I'm planning on doing it in the slow cooker. If I prepare it all tonight and put it in the fridge then just put it on tomorrow morning will everything be ok, or is it likely to end up a soggy mess?
Thanks.0
