Hadn't thought about the sogginess! Thinking about it, I think the baked potatoes will be better - I can cook them, then keep them warm either wrapped in foil, or keep them on low in the oven - problem solved!
Thanks:j0 -

I have a slow cooker, never used it, are they good, can I save money using it? Even if it's quite large is it still good value to use for one person or in my case am I best sticking with the halogen oven and/or combi microwave I have?
Come to that matter I have never understood or used a pressure cooker, are they any good? Are they safe?"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I've had a slow cooker for a while and it's the best investment I've made in the way of cooking equipment. It's a smallish one but I get 6 or 7 portions of stew which I can then let cool and store in the freezer, which is my second best kitchen investment.
I also live alone and I find that I can buy larger quantities of vegetables, cook them (in the slow cooker as a stew or just in a pan as boiled vegs), freeze them, and all in all I do save money. The bonus is that this makes it easy to eat healthy quantities of vegetables. I heartily recommend that you use your slow cooker and this thread will be very helpful to get you started.
As for pressure cookers, my mum has one but I've never been interested in them.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

I have had a slow cooker for a while and use it to make meatballs, casseroles etc. I have a 7 month old who has allergies so I am trying to adjust so she can eat what we eat. When making curry etc I use frozen chicken breast which I have to buy quite a bit of as this is what we eat regular and hubby has chicken salad for lunch. Is there other chicken portions which are easier and cheaper? I did a jerk curry with chicken drumsticks but werent keen on having to pull chicken off the bone while eating. Lol.
Also is there a nice easy pudding I can do in there? I LOVE apple crumble, sponge puddings etc.

Hi, I have a quick question about my slow cooker.
It has low, high and warm settings but no timer, the recipe I am doing today says to cook on high for 3.5 hours which is fine as I'm in all day but if I wanted to do it when at work (out of the house from 7am until 6pm) could I use a timer switch (like when you use when you go on holiday)? And I assume if it had chicken in I wouldn't really be able to just leave it out all day in the cooker? My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Hello all,
It's been ages since I've logged into mse (though I have been reading!) so howdy to everyone - especially anyone who might happen to vaguely remember me
I'm looking for some advice from you lovely people! I bought my first slow cooker from tesco today - the sc356 3.3l model. I've had a look at the very basic leaflet that came with it, and am a bit confused at the instructions. There is a low, high and warm setting. I get the warm one, its the low and high seem a bit confusing: it says that the low setting is only really for reheating, and the high for cooking but things will take 7-8 hours on high. Is this likely to be right? I would have thought 7+ hours would be for the low setting, and less for high?
If anyone could help (especially if they happen to have the same cooker!) that would be fantastic. All meal suggestions also gratefully received!0
