The Rachel Allen S.C is 340watts (highest one ive seen) I have a Breville which is 220-240watts and can reach boiling on high...lowest wattage ive seen is the little Argos value one at only 90watts.
Most SC have the wattage stamped on the bottom of the "casing" part that the crockpot sits in

PS/ Steff,do you have a breville SC too?apparantly these have a "wrap around "element that surrounds the side of the SC,rather than just under the base?

Hi, thanks for the reply CM. Its an Argos cookworks one about 5 years old 200watts one. It only ever sticks if its milk based, none of my soups, stews, chilli's or spag bols stick.

  • I've bought a 3.8Kg gammon for Christmas. My slow cooker is large enough to take it but how long will it take to cook and how much liquid? Ideally I'd like a lot of liquid to make soup. My recipe mentions a 1Kg gammon and to cook for 6-9 hours. Would it be the same for three times the size one? TIA.
  • My oven has a slow cooking setting. The instructions say just to put stuff in a lidded casserole dish and follow slow cooker recipes.

    Has anyone used this before?

I think I'd rather try this instead of investing in a new gadget.
  • My friend has got this setting on her cooker and says the food actually tastes better than when done in the slow cooker! HTH.

Yes, I used to do this a lot but I have to say it is much cheaper to run a slow cooker than a cooker on a slow-cook setting; also, I got my morphy richards for a ridiculous price, £6 or something daft, and I have definitely made this amount back in the electricity I have saved and the time I have saved by just bunging stuff into it and letting it get on with it; have a Boxing Day chutney in there as we speak ...

I have posted on another thread but will try here as well. My question is that I have a Tefal 3-in-1 cooker which is OK for rice and steamed veg, but not good for slow cooking. It has an 'ON' switch only; no slow/medium/high settings.

The few recipes I've done have bubbled away and no way could you leave them 10 hours - they'd be burnt. The beans I did still had hardish skins on them after 6-7 hours. Even the Tefal website doesn't really help, so my query is: has anyone else got one and can tell me any reliable recipes they have used?

Nigella's recipe only asks for minimum boiling/soaking and only 2 and a half hours if using conventional methods. Pretty sure you'll be okay if you use a medium or high setting.
Sure you've seen it but here you go :
