    Hiya

    I have never cooked rice in a slow cooker and fancy giving it a go as I have a few leftovers that need to be used up pretty sharpish. These are as follows:

    * some poussin/ garlic/ rosemary stock
    * some chicken
    * some fried onions
    * 4 mushrooms
    * 1/3 small glass white wine
    * 1/3 tin flageolets
    * some tinned peeled tomatoes

    The rice is easy cook which I understand is what should be used for slow cookers... Now, I am a bit worried about it all ending like soup if I just throw it all in and hope for the best.. Any ideas on how I should go about it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you...

    That sounds very much like a rustic-style Chicken Chasseur to me but I would have served it with the rice cooked separately. Due to the tinned tomatoes and white wine, you wouldn't need a great deal of stock with it - could you not have frozen some of that or is it too late for that now?

    As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the SC QQ thread to keep ideas together ;)

    Hope you enjoyed your meal :D

    Hi, I bought one of the 6.5l slow cookers that were on offer in argos a couple of weeks ago, the silver ones for £14.99. This was to replace my old one, the problem is, the lid on this one does not sit flush. when you put it on you can rock it one way then the other which means steam comes out of one side a little bit. If any one else bought one can you tell me if yours is the same or if i'll need to return it to the shop?

    Thanks in advance

    Becky I would give their customer services a call and ask if this is supposed to be like that. I wouldn't imagine so as heat escaping would affect the effectiveness IYKWIM!

    Well, in the end, I threw everything in and hoped for the best (couldn't have frozen any of it due to last week's big adventure of replenishing the freezer and now struggling to close the door......). It wasn't bad but not necessarily the nicest meal I have ever had. The rice worked out ok (possibly because it was easycook) in the end, maybe because I didn't put too much stock in so it wasn't overly glupy...

    Only thing is that I find it quite difficult to get the seasoning right when using the SC...

    I bought a Rival one from ebay a few weeks ago - it was £14.99, don't know if it was the same one. The first one I was sent the crockpot rocked and the lid didn't fit on it properly. I got sent another one which was fine. Can only assume the first one's crockpot was the wrong one for that particular model. I would take it back to Argos and explain the problem and get it replaced. As previous poster has said it will affect the cooking.
