i got my and my son some of aldis thermals today and some socks and insoles
some of my kitchen cupboards have no backs on(rented house) so the ones on the back of the house have just brick. surely this is making my kitchen colder? i can only keep tins or cleaning stuff in them cos of damp
what could i do? i was thinking maybe somehow getting some cardboard to stay up?

our kitchen cupboards are the same,i got some of those damp trap things from lakeland which helps with the damp in them enormously, doesnt help the cold but at least everything doesnt go mouldy:j

Can i ask for the poeple who keep their heating on low to stay unchilled what temp do you consider low?
My other problem is that my thermostat is at the top of the stairs and i like to air the bedrooms during the day so is this going to massively affect how the thermostat works?
Also would you keep all the radiators on or just the living room?

We have our heating on 14 hours per day , my husband is disabled and sits all the time and he feels the cold.

The temp is usually around 21 degrees, :Dif its not warm enough then we turn it up and vice versa.........nothing worse than being cold in your own home , we dont smoke or drink , so the comfort of a warm home we will have..... ..:D

I pay DD monthly and read the metre every 2 months , to check that we are paying enough , and make sure we are well in credit this time of year so that we can have a very warm winter without worrying about how to pay for it......we are well insulated ,newish double glazing , so we are prepared for the winter whatever it throws at us......:D

Struggling to find any cheap curtains or linings as 90" not long enough for my windows  which are all ceiling to floor, in my high ceilinged house :(

I solved this problem by sewing some contrasting coloured fabric to the bottom of the longest curtains I could get cheaply.
It was quite simple(I am not very crafty unless its edible) and looks really good .

We're having a safety gas inspection tomorrow so i thought i had better turn the heating on for half an hour just to make sure it is still in working order and so i could tell him if there are any probs. It all seems to be working fine. Turned it off as soon as the radiators heated up and i knew they were all working. It won't go on proper just yet, hopefully.

    Hi Hmc,
saw your post and it got me thinking,
If your allowed paste some cooking foil on to the wall,(acts as a damp-proof membrane), and you can paper over with lining paper or WHY. Failing that, stick some bubblewrap to a suitable size of cardboard and hold that to the cupboard top, sides etc. with either duct tape or wide sellotape.

For those wanting to make rice/wheat bags, I've bookmarked these instructions from a crafty blogger for ages as it just looks so comfy:
