I've cleared out a cupboard in order to stock up on bulk food/ bargains/ christmas goodies. It now contains two bags of flour, yeast and a box of chocolates! That's if the chocs last until December. :D

On the heating debate - It's a very individual thing depending on circumstances but I'm one of the 'keep it on low when I'm in the house' people, when I have to have it on i.e. when I'm wrapped up with thermals, layers of clothes, blanket and still feel cold.

I'll say I work full time and live on my own- but on workdays my heating in Dec/Jan/Feb last year was on for 4 or 5 hours a day and on most of the day on my days off and I spent £60 a month on heating. Most of my radiators have thermostat valves on them and were set between 2 and 3. I had all my radiators turned on as I have an open plan house so the heat would just wander upstairs in any case, so the bedroom ones were set at 2.

It was my first year with central heating and I'm on a prepayment meter and kept a record of what I was using every week. I had heard horror stories of how much heating costs were. When I first turned it on I was checking every hour to see how far the dial had turned round and how much it was costing me. It wasn't an obsession honest. :)I have a halogen heater and that was using a couple of pennies less each hour heating one room than putting on the central heating for an hour.

i got my and my son some of aldis thermals today and some socks and insoles
some of my kitchen cupboards have no backs on(rented house) so the ones on the back of the house have just brick. surely this is making my kitchen colder? i can only keep tins or cleaning stuff in them cos of damp
what could i do? i was thinking maybe somehow getting some cardboard to stay up?

what do you gals/guys recommend a 13.5 or 15 tog duvet?
I'm not sure what mine is - it's one of those combos with a thin summer and then a medium one that you stick together in winter. If it were me I'd probably go for the 13.5 - you can always add an extra layer if needed.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

No idea on your cupboards I'm afraid. But I was wondering if the thermals seem nice quality? I didn't make it to Aldi today and I'm hoping they might have some left tomorrow. Which insoles did you go for - the thermal or fleece ones - I wasn't sure which would be better.

Thanks for the review hmc! :T It sounds like they'll dry easily which is a big plus in winter! I reckon I'll go for thermal insoles too. Just hope there are some left tomorrow!
