I tend to wear a waterproof jacket with a fleece underneath depending how cold it is. When temperatures are freezing I wear thermals as well. I used to go walking a lot so have thermal walking trousers as well.Which I practically live in when the snow is here. Mostly all bought in sales. I have a slightly padded waterproof jacket. Last year i invested in a pair of snow boots.
I have been following this thread with interest. The house is not too bad to keep warm. I have a couple of fleece throws to put over when watching tv.Some great tips so thanks for those. Need to get some more loo rolls though.0 -
I would love to know a little more about all of you. Would it be impolite to ask everyone their ages, location, interests and professions?
Not impolite at all and I'll bet you get hundreds of replies
I'm Laura, 38, born, brought up and living in Glasgow. My interests are mainly reading and knitting although I'm adding some exercise into the mix now. I hate winter so anything I can do to stay toasty warm is good. I'm not working (retired on grounds of ill health a few years ago) but my last job was as an Accounts Analyst with the 'local' utility company.Household: Laura + William-cat

If it's a 'spend more to see less used' thing, maybe you should fork out for a couple of rolls of Izal (tracing paper toilet roll!) for visitors. Not only would they use less, they'd probably secretly start bringing their own

Love it! I might be older than most here but just goes to show you can still teach an old dog new tricks! Perhaps I should put out some pencils as well - but no, they'd probably be in there for hours then
And thank you very much for the complement0 -

Hi Kathy,
Im Gill (43) living in Bedfordshire. Working mum (site manager in a school) , love to cook, read and DIY. I also have a springer and a little llapso to keep me warm on those cold nights (if you can excuse the snoring from them both lol). Been using this forum for a while now to help keep the pennies where they belong and i have found it a godsend. x0 -

Im Pauline (62) retired and live in the North East. I am a volunteer meeter and greeter at the local hospital. My interests are reading, metaphysics, alternative therapies and Nordic walking.
I have bought a all season quilt so that has gone on the bed. Need to look for my thermal socks. Im lucky in that I live near the main street here so shops are very close.
Oops sorry didnt see the post above till I posted.0 -

Hi Kathy, I'm Sue, 64, separated for 10 years, 2 children, various (6, I believe) grandchildren aged 9 to 19. Can never remember their names, I suggested they wear labels but they refuse coz they like to confuse me - not difficult. I live in a small town 40km north of London with 1 German Spitz Mittel and 2 feral cats. Called Sparrer (Cockney way of saying Sparrow) after the film 'Sparrers can't Sing' - no need for explanations there! Retired at 58 from work as manager of a sheltered housing scheme due to illness. I have COPD but I don't live with it, it has to live with me. Think that's enough to bore you to sleep for now!

eta sorry squeaky just seen your post0 -
We have been clearing outside too and started a few weeks ago, clearing and composting as we go as it is a job I detest when the weather is cold and wet. Re-vamping used compost so that it is usable again for winter veg in troughs and raised beds outside the house. I certainly won`t be going to the allotment when it is snowy and icy, so want kales etc at home and ready to pick. I didn`t leave the house for 6 weeks last year as the lane was so slippy. Regarding winter veg and not counting all the stuff I have dehydrated, fozen, brined and bottled. There is still a need for fresh greens so I have made sure that I have plenty of seeds ready to sprout and have fresh on salads, in sandwiches etc
I get a special (paid for) weather forecast and october is generally going to be pretty good in the south and south east with an indian summer. Big north/south split yet again though. Wet wind gales floods (no mention of snow) in north and west. No more on that as it is copyright0 -
Thank you Jammy Dodger for the heads up! I nipped out to Aldi's today for the thermal ladies trousers and they are great. I had sent back the winter lined Craghoppers because I didn't think they would be warm enough for me, but these are great, and super value at £10.99.
I've also spent some time today pinning IKEA fleecy blankets inbetween various pairs of curtains and their linings. Still a bit to go, but I'm pleased with progress. If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.
