Jema. I personally had a coil fitted due to having heavy periods and haven't had to use any sanitary products since. Apparently they last five years. However this is suitable for me because I have no intention of having any kids :D

i had one years ago when i was still in the states, it got lost during the move and i didn't replace it (didn't have the money at the time and then i just forgot)

personally i think they're pretty good, but def not for anyone squeamish as they are slightly messy til you get the hang of it. i'm considering buying one myself again... just make sure you get the right size, you will need a larger one if you've had children

Another lurker, joining you gang of winter realists! My hubby thinks I am nuts, but I have started th get ready for the bad weather, we live in one of the higher parts of Sheffield and last years snow was horrendous.

    So far I have:

    1. Ordered and awaiting delivery of Craghoppers and new fleece
    2. Re- waterproofed my walking boots and got new laces
    3. Started to eat contents of freezer to allow proper restock
    4. Started to stockpile important things like tea bags and toilet rolls
    5. Ordered and awaiting delivery of Lakeland Dry Soon heated clothes horse thing, was thinking about a tumble dryer but thought this is better for me and hubby
    6. Started autumn deep clean, room by room, sorting, tidying and generally having a clear out

I shall keep reading, love some of the ideas!

Whilst we're all stocking up on toilet rolls and tea bags etc, lets not forget some choc or nice treats, something for when the kids (and you) get cabin fever in the event of heavy snowfall; the problem will be finding somewhere to hide them! Might also be a good idea to stock up on colouring/reading/puzzles or whatever your kids like.

I've been sorting out my videos and dvds, I have a nice list of winter viewing sorted, and lots of books to read in case the power goes off :) I might even be tempted by a jigsaw or two. Last year I was housebound for over 3 weeks because of icy pavements so this year I'm making sure I'm prepared :)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Hi jem - I had one pre mooncup brand called a keeper - it was extremely good and after I got the hang of it I felt very secure. It was sometimes a worry when I was in schools that didnt have private rinsing facilities and you have to be very careful if you have a coil or you can get a very nasty surprise!! I tink the mooncups are softer so should be easier to get on with quickly but as confuled says you have to absolutely okay with the process or it will not suit you - I cannot get DD to even contemplate the idea!!! I always felt I was beig virtuous plus I think the price of the alternatives is criminal - it IS an essential after all or has that escaped the Mars genders notice???
Gosh just looked at this and realised it will ound like code if you arent in the 'know'!

Hi everyone. Haven't posted here in a while but I've been trying my best to keep up and see how everyone's getting on. I will say though, it does sound horrible up where you are Red Doe! I really hope you're okay this winter, I imagine it would be a quite beautiful and peaceful way to be if it wasn't for your gas supplier.

Since I posted last we've had a massive windfall our way so have put money to one side to cover all our winter bills and enough to cover new radiators once we've had the central heating system flushed come Autumn. We're also having a new kitchen fitted which will replace the cold white one we currently have, and my Grandparents' are very kindly paying for us to have double glazing fitted to replace the rickety single glazing we have now. We've also self fitted blinds in our bedroom and kitchen which is another helpful layer to keep the cold out!

All we have to buy now is a snow shovel - a hardware shop in the town next to our village has them in bins outside so I'm going to go pick one up in the next couple weeks. I also need some good snow boots, while OH needs a new winter coat and boots. I'm also thinking of making OH a car kit too, but I'll do that closer to the time.

Our stockpile is still going strong, and I've found the co op near us heavily marks meat down on a Friday morning so our freezer is currently stuffed. I'm also making some Christmas cakes over the next couple weeks for family at Christmas.

    Hope you're all well x
