Yes skintbint I have and I am genuinely sorry if I have blundered - although it is a hell of a job in schools like mine and I would do something else if I could.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0

Sorry if I have upset anyone talking about teachers wages.
I shouldn't think you have tugrin. Teaching in FE was the only job I've ever had where we all counted down to hols:o.

Thanks guys - you are right we are all here because we need to be and I was originally just musing on the cost of services these days and my post was meant to be a bit lighthearted - whoops.
Anyway its been a good day for getting stuff done and I am looking forward to the possible good weather at the end of the week when I hope I can go foraging for rosehips. Also hopefully will try hand at rowan jelly.debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -

I've made my door curtain! :T An old ikea tab top curtain which I have lined with emergency foil blanket stuff. After experimenting with trying to sew it and trying to glue it, I finally had success with double-sided sellotape. I don't know how long it will last though as that doorway gets a hammering - I'm in and out with the dogs and my bike and shopping - but we'll see.
It does make a difference. Some lads were smoking pot outside and I could smell it inside (yuck) but the curtain stopped the smell getting in. I went outside and asked them to move on, though. Luckily they were chilled out enough not to take offence ....Aspire not to have more but to be more.

My bargain roll of bubble wrap arrived today, and I've done 6 windows already - impatient, aren't I?
They're not ones that open, those will be done a little later. As a matter of interest do you put the bubbles window side, as I have, or facing the room, and is there a reason for doing it the way you do?
Sorted out my boots/shoes, all 38 pairs. (Another). No need to buy any more as my knee high boots and tyre-soled walking boots are in good condition and will do at least another couple of Winters. The green wellies I keep in the car with a pair of thick socks, and they're okay too.
Will pop into Home Bargains on Friday to see if they've got brushed cotton jimmies in yet, and Wilko's to collect the two-fleece packs I ordered at £3.50 a pack.
Is it me or does the house feel warmer tonight, now several of the windows are done?
Sweet dreams of a warm Winter0 -
Article in The Times today Forget summer. We’ve skipped straight to autumn - headline says it all
My kitchen was 18.8 and my living room 20.5 this morning. My door curtain at the front is up and I will be putting up winter curtains, and back door curtain, etc soon so will be interested to see the difference they make!
Still gutted I didn't buy more fleeces when they were on offer in Wilko!0 -

The reason I didn't say anything on the thread (and I offfered to post the PM I sent to Tugrin if she wanted me to - which wasn't nasty and certainly not intended to be) was to avoid starting a bit debate/slagging match exactly like this.
I know teachers earn their money and put up with a lot from kids etc but they are on a fairly decent wage when compared to a lot of people who also put up with a load of abuse (porters/cleaners etc etc) many of who are paid on minimum wage.
I'm afraid I did get upset at a salary of around £25/hour being called "pathetic" when it is a lot more than a vast majority of the country try to survive on.

My front (only!) door is one of those PVU (?) affairs, in a rented property. Does anyone know of an easy and cheap way to put a door curtain up without having to drill holes etc? It's got a large glass window and the cold that seeps through that in winter is awful."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0
