  • Been very silly if not stupid:eek::o

I bought some lovley curtains when I moved in to this flat which has large single glazed sash windows, and they hang well below the window sill BUT cover the storage heater:eek::eek:, thank goodness I realised what I had done, feel a right twerp.

So have had to take them down and put up my shorter ones, which actually look better and are much safer....need to look around my flat and check that safety isnt an issue with my winter preparations..think its time for an earlyish night

Not wishing to sidetrack the thread but I put cling film on the top of my fridge freezer, just peel back the dust!

I think you are officially a genius. Tops of kitchen cabinets spring to mind too.
    Hope is not a strategy.

Soda crystals are brilliant at cleaning tops of kitchen cupboards.
  • I remember Anthea Turner in Perfect Housewife saying that she put newspaper on the top of her kitchen cupboards (as it can't be seen that high) and then would just change it at intervals so that they didn't gather dust.

  • I'm slightly surprised at how many people on here say they need to get new curtains, slippers, pyjamas, fleeces etc for the winter...surely these things should last years?

I just hang them over doors and they dry fairly quick.

Using a fan (the sort you might use during the summer) to blow air around speeds up the drying process as well.

It's also very useful if you need to use a clothes horse to dry your laundry.

I don't get new curtians - but it does seem the darned children just keep on growing so they will need new jammies/ slippers etc.

Very true, although I tend to buy PJ's for my son that are big and will last a couple of years. Bootsales are excellent for slippers (hardly worn most of them)

We've got sheets of newspaper on top of our high wall cupboards in the kitchen. it can't be seen and gets changed every few months.
I have some large mixing bowls standing up there and those have cling wrap acrooss the tops.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

you could try ebay (this was the only white one I could find http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SOFT-WHITE-FLEECE-60-WIDTH-/150485146469?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric_Textiles_SM&hash=item23099d1b65) or your local fabric shop or fabric stall on a market. I've not seen fleece blankets in white its always cream.

p.s. I'm not the seller! just came across it last night when looking for spotted fleece.

Thanks! I have ordered the fleece and it is the exact size I needed! :j :money:  :T
