Preparing for winter II

Got a large sack of salt today, 2 tins of powdered milk (long life I'll get at the end of next month to be sure of a good use by date) and 2 tins of de-icer. If the supermarkets don't have it try your local motorist shop, theirs might cope with lower temps better than the cheapo stuff in Mr's A, M, S, T etc. for only a few more pennies. I also have a lock de-icer which I spray on both the lock and the key.
I know I don't have to because you ladies have more intelligence, but please can I ask everyone to be careful where you put the can of de-icer when you get in the car. A couple of years ago someone ran into the back of my daughters car - she had a friend in the passenger seat and her dogs in their cages in the back - because his can of de-icer rolled under the brake pedal at a roundabout. They were all okay thank goodness, and the other driver admitted it was a stupid place to put the can

Lol no mummytoo, is an abbreviation of Tesco. I think some people are worried about copyright etc so they say Mr T, or type it as t4sco, or whatever.0 -
Oh just had another thought which I am sure will have been covered but I will be getting dishwasher tablets, washing powder and toilet rolls in as I would hate to go without those!
We have a TV show here in the US called "Hoarders". It is about people who never throw anything out (including their rubbish or spoiled food) and accumulate it until its up to the ceiling and they cannot even walk through because there is no path. Well I just checked my TP (loo rolls) stash to make sure we weren't running low and there were 10 packages of 12 double/24single rolls. This doesn't include another package under the vanity in the upstairs bath, nor the package in the downstairs powder room. I estimate we have 150 double rolls currently! I feel just like a hoarder person on TV!
Now in my defense, when I get home from the market with the TP, I put the package on the hall stairs and my OH always takes it upstairs and puts it in the upstairs bathroom linen cabinet. Since I rarely use that bathroom (only at night if need be) I don't look in there very frequently. So I guess we are set for awhile for that product.
We have a bargain here in the US going on right now with Cascade dishwasher tablets. There has been a coupon for $1 off any package of tablets and there are currently trial packages of 3 tablets for $1 at Walmart. I ordered 20 coupons from eBay last night for $2. So thats 60 tablets for $2 (about 1.5 pounds sterling sorry-- no pound symbol on American keyboard).
Is washing powder for laundry? Here we call it laundry detergent. I make my own with 1 bar grated laundry soap, 1 cup of washing soda and 1 cup of powdered borax. You can mix it well and use it dry or mix with water in a 5 gallon bucket. It's dirt cheap and cleans the clothes really well. No dyes or perfumes. I still add chlorine bleach to my white clothes and fabric softener (conditioner) as needed.0 -

Yes washing powder is laundry, i also make my own using that same recipee. I do add a drop of essential oil (lemmon) to give it a nice smell. Sometimes if i find a cheap branded detergent on offer & have a coupon i will buy that and mix it in with my own.0 -

Keep safe Kathy.
MIL gave me 3 carrier bags of plums last night so i'm spending the day stewing & freezing them ready pies etc.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Just to say - Yes I realised my last post was for gaitors and not hiking boots.
Secondly I figure I can use them to keep me dry on the school run/ work walk, and the hiking boots I can still wear in work too with my uniform as they are heavy duty/practical boot so will save my toes if tins fall on them.
I'm paid on Tuesday/ Wednesday so will get my sons school uniform sorted and make a start on preparations for winter, we are having a trip to primarni and sports direct for his winter coat so we'll see what else I can get whilst I'm there.Time to find me again0 -
Keep safe Kathy.

My living room windows are both finished and the curtains are up :j
I finished the straight window late last night, i started it as soon as the sun had moved around enough not to blind me and then i cleaned the frame and the window, sanded the sill and resealed it and then gave it a coat of varnish. TBH it could really do with another light sand and another coat of varnish as its not entirely smooth when i run my hand along it but we are decorating next year so that can be done then. The curtains now have their fleecy linings on and are back up, they look lovely.
Nice sunny start to the day today and my washing is out on the line so i hope that it stays that way. I have visitors coming later but need to find the time to start off some chutney. I think that i`ll be making the hearty ale one from the river cottage book as i can`t find the recipe for the lovely one that i made last year.
The kitchen curtain rail is up :j i`ve done it with the new strips so fingers crossed that it stays that way, i`ve also discovered that the new curtains need altering so yet another job for me to do *rolls eyes* its never ending lol
Think that i`ll re do my to do list later to keep me motivated.
Hope that things are ok in your neck of the woods Kathy.
