Well what a incentive that was, I cleaned out the freezer which was as you all know scheduled for September, but with these vouchers I can do an inventory and stock the freezer. The whole thing from getting everything out to cleaning it, to refilling it and shutting the lid down was 50 minutes flat. Have got some good room in there now so that voucher is going to be used for winter freezing food. Also came across some Mr Brains faggots - love those in the winter so might stock up on another couple of packs of those - so easy to cook and devine as well to eat.

well done you and that was lovely of your husband!

i got my freezer today :T it's now doing its 12 hours with the lid open thing then i'll switch it on later and have to leave it for another 24 hours before i can start filling it up. i bought a bunch of long dated mince from lidl this weekend 500 gram packages for £1.34, i bought my allowance of 6 so i'll soon have to get out my patty maker and get those into the freezer once it's ready

it's been a very busy day today so far today i've had:

    1 freezer delievered
2 massive approved food order with loads of baking and soup making things
    3 fleece snood arrived
    4. big box of 225 chinese takeaway containers with lids arrived
    5. holland and barratt order came with spices, dried fruit and vitamin D to help with the winter blues

my clean house is now a tip with food, vitamins and boxes everywhere but hey it's for a good cause :p

i hope we never have to test it to minus 65!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::rotfl:

i don't know... the odden feature off the coast of greenland is what controls our gulf stream, they say it's kinda 'broken' right now.. if that's true, we wil start to have summers like other places of on the same lattitude.

when i lived on skye i figured out we were on a similar lattitude as juneau (alaska) and moscow, without the gulf stream life would be MUCH colder here in scotland. mind you i'm only in Fife now so it's not so bad but still! there are several places in the northern US states, minnesota springs to mind where -40F (which just happens to also be -40C) are common in winter... and that's further south than any of the UK  (don't worry too much, northerly, continental areas are almost always colder than islands, still scary to think of though!)

i posted the ebay link a few days ago but they only had a few left, looks like they either have more now or only sold a few because there are still a few available if anyone wants them Chinese takeaway boxes with lids £29 all in with postage, much cheaper than any other option i could find

the outside of the box says they are :
    microwavable
    freezable
    recyclable
    CFC Friendly

    the measurements are 174mm x 114mm x 53mm
basically they a decent sized single portion

i'm chuffed to bits with them, i'll probably use some for craft items as well as i've tons of them now!

I'm so pleased I started reading this thread last week :j

I have large patio doors off my dining room, and in 5 years I have never had curtains up at them (I like the light) but it does make that area really cold in winter. I decided to get some curtains (I have had the rail ready to go up for 5 years!) and was looking in the charity shops-but they had none long enough and what they did have were smelly and £20 :(

So,I went to TJHughes as I learnt on here they were closing: I picked up some 90 x 90 curtains in a gorgeous plum colour for £14! I will have to hem them as they are too long for my window, but I am really thrilled. I have a huge roll of the large bubble bubble wrap, and my elderly neighbour-who is already well set for winter- suggested I placed some of that between the liner and the curtain for extra warmth (apparently, she also pushes scrunched up bubble wrap into the top of her rail, to stop heat escaping when the curtains are shut.)

    I wouldn't have been looking if I hadn't read this thread :T

Yes Suzi but what are you doing about it, it's all very well reading you gotta get going girl and get your house in order :D:D:D:D

Confuzzled - they think that we have lost 30% of the gulf stream and it's warming effects - thats quite a bit in the grand scheme of things!

Launderette tomorrow for me to get the duvet taken in and hopefully picking the horse rugs up as well (not from the same place I would add).

This chuffin winter list is getting stuff crossed off it but other things are being added as well argh
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

My boiler is getting serviced tomorrow and am going to ask the man how to set up the timer so that we can control the heating a bit more this winter. Last year we had to turn it on and off all the time (and the hot water!)
