Preparing for winter II

Hi Prudent - I would suggest those vacumn seal bags where you take out the air with a hoover. That way its completely sealed from bugs etc.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

I prefer milk powder. One tin (I got my last lot in Aldi) takes up about the same space as one carton, but makes 7 pints of milk. Also, if you're using it in coffee, put the recommended amount in the bottom of the cup with the coffee and mix it with a little cold water. When you top up with the hot water, you'll get frothy coffee!0

you've actually given me a good idea for how to use our wheelbarrow. Ask on freecycle, usually loads getting given away that are a bit rusty etc but perfectly good for what you want them for.
Jumpleads, I got mine in Poundstretcher (10 years I paid £4.99), the same jumpleads are now £6.99.
Found perfect curtain for very narrow window on the stairs (I mean ridiculously narrow, its only 6 inches across!), £1 fleece scarf pinned to the wall. No more drafts! I bought a few of these scarves last winter and didn't use them (had planned to turn them into bed jackets for 2 little dogs but my friend knitted some instead).CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
have managed to borrow my sis's dehydrator so will start looking out for veg, herbs, fruit etc that i can dry and keep in jars - have quite a few onions to lift, you have all got me thinking about what food/tins can stock up with, brilliant idea for the vaccum bags. Wrights flours and breadmixes have a website for bulk buying Prudent, but delivery in Scotland is a bit limited, i can get it north of Dundee but sis 35 miles away just outside Perth cant so we split an order, got an order last year and it seen me through so that will def be on the cards for me, but will bake a couple and keep in the freezer as have an electric oven so if the electricity goes out at least i have bread and a gas hob to make soup, last year we spent a good few hours in the kitchen as used the gas hob for heating when had no power!skintbint x

I have made sure that I`ll be growing some winter greens in the garden, some hardy kales as I missed thr fresh veg oh and I`ll make flipping sure that no-one books train tickets to see us, as happened last time. There was no way we could have got the car out of the village to pick them up and the train money was wasted and I am not booking us to babysit etc as it was very hard to explain to someone, 70 miles away, why we couldn`t do it
Spouting seeds are easy to grow on a windowsill in a matter of days ,may help supplement some fresh foods if you are unable to obtain supplies.
Folks often don't understand how different the weather can be just a few miles out. My mum lives just a few miles away from me and she can have all her washing dried on the line and I have wall to wall rain.0 -
The temperatures here have clearly dropped and I was tempted to pop the fire on tonight but I put on an extra layer and made a hot cup of tea, worrying that it feels that cold in August!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
