i am also wondering what i can do with the stairs

I have a theory with our stairs.... we have floorboards upstairs in our council house. We have carpeted the bottom half of the stairs so it looks presentable if we have to open the front door to anyone, but have left from the middle landing (half way up stairs you change direction) and upstairs free from carpet. Our theory is if we have to heating on downstairs then the heat will seap up through the floorboards and heat upstairs (and we have new loft insulation) and it has been boiling the last few weeks upstairs. Plus the water tank is in my little boys bedroom and he likes his door open and being that it hasnt got a jacket on it (considering it though) the heat is heating his bedroom and his sisters which is next door when they leave their doors open.

Have seen my freezer and its £169.00 with free delivery so that is my main savings project now.
    Time to find me again

Oh, thats not good. In other words Mr T's are lulling us into a false sense of security and then the prices will take a huge hike.

I called them unix cos I felt they seemed to have an unfair postcode policy ie more for different areas...it's pretty common for anyone to discount discontinued lines..

well, after spending an absolute age trying to find reasonably priced freezer suitable storage containers today i came across this (i've no affiliation with the seller btw) btw there are only 4 left (after the one i just ordered)

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sumo-S650-Plastic-Takeaway-Food-Container-Lids-x-225-/270783109309?pt=UK_BOI_Restaurant_RL&hash=item3f0bee58bd

i thought i'd share for any other freezer owners or those planning to buy a new freezer. i realise most of us won't need 225 containers and lids BUT, you can always share and have replacements and quite frankly it's sooo much cheaper than any other option i personally think being put off by the quantity is well, kinda silly. i've used my chinese takeaway food boxes in the freezer before (from takeaway meals i've ordered) so these should work great and because they are all the same i should get maximum capacity in the freezer as they will stack perfectly!

i transferred money from my savings today, so i'll be ordering my new freezer probably friday as it should have cleared into my account by then, can't wait!

can anyone please point me to a once a month cooking thread or site? i need to get some ideas for recipes and start forumlating a shopping list...

i've just added another thing to my winter checklist: i need to go check the cherry tree, apple tree and roses to see how soon it will be til the fruit is ready on those!

What a great thread! I've been inspired to make my own list (I love lists!) :j We're lucky as our house is relatively modern (built in '93) so not too many problems to deal with, plus we live in North Essex, so the weather's pretty tame compare to a lot of you lot in Scotland! Seems like a lot to do in not a lot of time, but hopefully we can borrow OH's Dad's ladder soon so we can do windows and gutter in one go. Other things basically involve paying people to do bits, hence why it's not been done yet. Ah I also bought a hot water bottle in Savers today for £1.49!

    House / Other

    [STRIKE]Get salt / grit for steps[/STRIKE]
    Buy cover for outside furniture
    Get boiler serviced
Have rads replaced in bedroom and bathroom (Quote requested)
Fix gutter at front of house
    Buy draught excluders
    Possible curtain for front door
    [STRIKE]Buy blind for bathroom[/STRIKE]
Finish painting windows ([STRIKE]2 down[/STRIKE], 3 to go!)
    [STRIKE]Paint fence / shed / decking[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Buy hot water bottle[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Add extra insulation to loft[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Buy Yaktrax[/STRIKE]

    Car

Buy 4 new tyres (very cheap and nasty ones when I bought car = very slippery in rain!)
[STRIKE]Buy glow plugs[/STRIKE] and change (ordered, not fitted yet)

    Horses

    Send rugs to be washed
    [STRIKE]Buy 2 x round bales of hay[/STRIKE] (Ordered)
    Get outdoor coat zip fixed
    Buy welly liners

Aldi and Lidl around this time maybe towards September have garden covers in their special purchases. I have seen them, I can't tell you how much they are because we store all our garden furniture away in shed once October loos into view, but if you are looking for them keep your eyes out on their online version of the magazines; then when they do appear - grab them.

grn.w.nv - we have stocked up on 300 bales of hay/hayledge and as much again on straw two weeks ago (we have a barn which is pretty damn helpful) downside was having to shell out £5.00 a bale on the hay/hayledge and that was discounted! It was allot to shell out, but it's nice stuff.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

Yep I saw some small bales of hay the other day £5.00 and that was a good price! They'll definitely go up later in the year. My horses live out all year, so they're pretty tough, though 2 of them get plenty of hay when it gets cold as the grass disappears. The other 2 can't eat hay (one is 25 and has dodgy teeth so can't chew it up properly, and the other got laminitis from eating hay last winter, so both are on a low-calorie chaff instead of hay = expensive!)
