Finally finished decorating DS's room. He now has thick wallpaper on all walls, thermal blind and i have washed his carpet. Put his winter feather duvet and new flannelette sheet on his toddler bed. Aired the duvet outside and it did the trick so thanks everyone
Just need to buy him some curtains and line them for extra insulation and his is the first complete room.

Thank you for the tip about the de-humidifiers sold on asda and wilko's- they really sound good. We live in a bungalow and suffer condensation and as a result the bedroom wall goes black wih mould regularly. Last year we had thermal boards put up inboth end rooms of the bungalow and these didnt go black last winter however the walls to the side of them did.
So we invested in an electric de-humidifier, gettting bucket fulls of water out, however despite no longer using a dishwasher or tumble dryer (both broke and we decided we could live without them), the electricity usage has increased.
So am off to invest in the gel de-humidifiers, can anyone suggest roughly how many I will need for each room, also, how long do they last? Many thanks as always for your wonderful advice and tips- cant wait for winter now!!!!0 -
My rebate has arrived! £370 quids.
going to invest in warm clothes, then the rest is emergency bills stash.
Yesterday i went to morrisons and took advantage of their 3 for £2 heinz soup offer and also the beans. Also got noodles and rice so i think the store cupboard is nearly done. Just little bits like some long life milk and any good offers.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Thanks for the reminder!! I will need to add UHT milk to my list! I also stock on bread for the freezer in the garage. 2 for £1.50 in Farm Foods. I can fit 10 loaves in it!
Bought myself some fleecy socks for my wellies off Ebay yeterday. We'll see what they're like & if they're OK I'll get them for the kids too. x0 -
For people who can't find those little dehumidifier things, when my mum had a caravan years ago she used to put little tubs of salt out over the winter, to draw the moisture from the air. When we went back in the spring, the little tubs had done their job and some had an inch or so of water in them while others had gone sort of crunchy on top, so I suppose they could be useful to people who can't get hold of the proper ones. They are cheap enough to try anyway.
We used to use old plastic tubs so we could just throw them away when we were done with them.:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -

thanks for reminding me, i know someone stated last year that they put a tub of salt under their airers when they dry clothes inside in winter and it makes them dry faster and draws out moisture from the room. i would think it may work out cheaper AND i suspect that any salt that's just a bit damp could be left to dry and once it's dry you could toss it out on the path and get double duty from it... i'll add a few kilo bags it onto my next online grocery shop.
i know i used to get double duty from bicarb of soda by using it to remove odours from my fridge then dumping it down my drain after it stopped absorbing odours so i'll have to try getting double duty from the salt too :T0 -
I need to put bowls of salt in the bedrooms...havoc in the morning during winter! Kids draw faces ont he windows & I end up cleaning them too often!0

I have spent a good hour so far on ebay looking for boots. - i've side tracked alittle and most in my watch list are not suitable winter attire, but, the search continues!
I found some gorgeous skeepskin lined riding boots. but they were far too pricey!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

I don't mind telling you all I am knackered. I spent this morning - three and a bit ours to be precise - painting the front wrought iron gates. They have not been done for a few years and were looking shabby. Anyway, they have now been done, but my arm is aching, so although it is another job off my list of things to do, there is still quite a bit more to go. At least the gates are protected now for a couple more winters at least and the rust won't set in.
Thanks for the tip on the salt for drawing moisture out. I shall do that as I dry allot of the washing in the kitchen. Usually I wash at night put it on the clothes airer and it is nearly dry by morning, but the windows certainly get it. Note to self - buy extra packs of salt!!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Its funny people should mention damp, as i have never ever had it but yesterday washed my little ones carpet with carpet cleaner and woke up to condensation all on his window- opened the window and its now gone. Never had this problem before, could it be the left over moisture in the carpet whiles it was drying?
ThanksMummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:
