Last winter, with living in a wee village quite high up, no shop and never gets snow ploughed, I got a bit depressed being snowed in for ages. I was thinking of getting a light/lamp for SAD. Does anyone have an recommendations and think they'll be cheaper at this time of year when people generally (except us on this thread) aren't thinking of winter? Thanks

Oh... and on the airer subject. I got one of those half rotary airers you put on the wall. Then if it rains you can take it down and put it up inside or in the garage (if you have room somewhere). It comes with two fixing kits so you can do this. I put most of mine on two clothes horses and stick them outside if it looks like it might rain, then it's just one lift and everything is inside in the dry. I am not looking forward to having drying all over the house again once winter comes!
You've just reminded me that I still have daylight bulbs in from last winter! They give a much better light and I have one in the central fitting in our office (as I reckoned that we spend the most time there!:o) I've still got the box and it claims to last up to 10,000 hours so that can't be bad eh? I also put one in the 'reading lamp' in the lounge and found it a great improvement during those long, dark, winter days and nights. Called Biobulb 25w 100w equivlalent, close to full spectrum light apparently.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Thanks, I do have one of these in the livingroom, takes a while to get use to the different colour it gives out. I never knew if they did the same thing as a sad light. Does anyone know?

I know we are all doing our bit for the winter months and it makes total sense to prepare, particularly if we are going to be for another bad winter but...

... I am no way lookg forward to those clocks going back at the end of October. The dark nights, the mornings that seem to take forever to get light. Then those damn days when it never seems to get light at all and even when you are driving at midday you have to have the lights on, on your car or in the house. Don't even start me on January - it's a nothing month and out of all the months in the year we have this is the one I detest the most. Sorry if you have a birthday in January, but I just hate it!

I have my birthday in January and the one year we didn't have snow it got ruined by other people in the family (don't ask). The best birthday I had was in a cottage my Mum and Dad lived in at the time, snowed in (Dad was away working and couldn't get home), so just me, Mum and my dog in front of the open fire in my bedroom toasting marshmallows (I didn't realise at the time we had very little food in the house).
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J
  • I just want to feel when the nights draw in that my cupboards and freezers are stocked, that my home is going to be nice and warm, and that Ive sorted most of my Xmas shopping.

Any small steps I can make now are going to help!
    Trying to shift that debt!

Aww bless you. Sometimes you don't realise but the simple things do bring the best pleasures and don't mention families to me - I have got an element in mine who quite honestly I have zero to do with! One of them is a real life Hiancynth Bucket :rotfl: Old saying you can pick your friends but not your family!!

Just added a few more things to my written list to do and I have found another coat to be washed - the last one - which I shall do this weekend. It's a coat that I use allot for work so it will need to be done and as it is a stone colour it tends to show up every mark :( Just finished cleaning the house and apart from polishing - which I shall do tomorrow now, I am pleased the house is looking clean - Stardrops what would I do without you :)

Yay! I got 2 snuggies from JML for a tenner. Loving this thread, feels so autumnal here, and looks like it won't be that much better tomorrow either. Thanks to the poster who reminded me to get them.:D
    Yaktraks next week.
