:wave:Welcome all newbies. If it's any help I find that once you get stocked up it's a lot cheaper over the following winters. I still have tins of soup, washing machine salt, candles etc that weren't used last winter, just check your stock and buy as you see them on offer :)
I got a single 4.5 tog quilt at Wilkinson's yesterday, find them more snuggly to use as throws when it's really cold, extra layer on bed, over knees when on pc etc. I suppose that you could even keep one rolled up in the car, or is that going too far? I tend to get carried away...:o:) Edited to add cost of £4.50.
Quick note on airers, I hang any tops, shirts etc on hangers then onto the airer. They dry quicker, saves space on the airer and you don't usually have to iron them, :):):) and you know that if you are desperate you can hang them at an open window on your curtain poles don't you? Doesn't look good but I only use the 'back windows' and after a couple of days of rain I do get desperate!:rotfl:
BTW that blackberry vodka cough medicine sounds like a store cupboard must have!
you can also put a single size quilt into a cover and use as an extra pillow i roll one up and put it behind my back when on sofa extra comfy , when my daughter asked for a double size bed just after i'd bought new single quilts for winter we just put them at the bottom of the bed as a runner and if she needs extra its there i'm thinking of using an old one to make a door curtain

Na, your not an anorak, but I am :o
I read mine every Monday morning and record the results on imeasure.
    http://www.imeasure.org.uk/

And I compare this years to last years usage.

Austerity living hubby calls it, as I read the riot act if we use more than the same week last year! but needs must and all that.

Thanks annie123 you reminded me i need to put my readings on imeasure haven't been able to for a while not looking forward to results i find it really helpfull with the gas readings as i find it really difficult to work out with the conversion thing with prices going up even for essential tariff need to keep track even more now

was talking to an elderly lady yesterday in the CAB for a long time, she was telling me that she lived in scotland 32 years ago up in the hills and was telling me that her father used to dig the potatoes up, and to keep them for the winter he dug a big hole put layers of straw then potatoes then more straw and then dug them up in the winter, a very interesting chat we had

My first drawer of supplies is coming along nicely - added a new one to the list - lightbulbs! We never have a store of these and think it would be sensible to get some in.

Have started picking up 2 of bits and pieces when i am shopping and popping the 2nd one in the drawer. Going on a fabric search this weekend.

I lurk mostly but just popping on to say don't forget to be building up your resistance to winter bugs by taking a multivit/mineral and vit D! I'm sure it's already been said, but now's the time to get started for it to be effective!

    Happy winter prepping!
