Preparing for winter II

OMG
I have just spoken to our boiler chap - he is brilliant and a really nice guy who is uber trustworthy (I was booking the boiler service for September) and his friend is something to do with the meterogical office and they are saying that it's odds on for a stonker of a winter. Now bearing in mind that our boiler guy said last year when he was fitting our new boiler in October that he wanted to get it done the first week of October by the latest, because we were in for a nightmare winter- and he got it right.
So it's looking pretty certain from Exacta and people connected with long range and energy companies that even they are forward thinking that we are going to get it. It's something to do with the atlantic conveyor weather system and it is looking to be on course as the same position last year!
Thats it my car is not coming out of the garage once that white stuff starts dropping .Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Long time lurker here, but having just about reached the end of this thread I thought I could add my find for the week. Mr S has plain candles on offer at our local store buy one pack get one free, am now the proud owner of 4 packs of tall candles for £7 (thats 80 candles!!) and as I got them with my nectar points its an even better find!0

Saw some kids gloves in reduced section at coop yesterday so grabbed them 2 pairs each (49p per pair). I have seen several single gloves thrown all over the place recently but no pairs. I am going to do a very mummy thing and sew ribbon or elastic to them so we dont loose them - is that really sad. Think i could get away with it for ds who is 3 nearly 4 but dd is 5 nearly 6 and not sure it is very cool!Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Not really looking forward to venturing out this winter. We should be lovely and snug at home with fleeces, jumpers, hot water bottles etc but when we leave the house i feel we will suffer - school runs i will not look forward to - can i homeschool just in yucky weather!
one of the things i personally love most about home educating my daughter is NOT having to face the nasty weather in winter! i feel for you, i really do!0 -
OH keeps complaining that it is too hot for him in the house at the moment - guess all of my winterproofing must be working a little - he will be thankful when the nasty weather comes although he will prob be on the road all week and not benefit from itMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

My last winter coat was washed this morning and is now out on the line drying in the sunshine. It might take a good 48 hours for it to dry properly but we are in for a nice weekend and now is as good a time as any.
We are on the lookout for old towels and bits of old clean carpet so that we can wrap the two big sacks of potaties up in, in the garage. If we don't wrap them and protect them, the frost could get at them and turn them all black. So if I put a triple layer of carpet on the floor and then wrap them up in towels that should be enough!
I shall wash the Dyson filter today as well and get that dried - my I am organised! :rotfl:Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Just popping by to say hi! Been a manic week for me so not done much winter prep!
Does anyone know the prices of a bag of 100 tea lights and where to get them from? I seem to only find bags of 20/30 at the moment! Do ikea still sell them? I use to live down the road from ikea but now its 45 minutes away I hardly go now!
Thanks!Proud mummy to an amazing 8 year old!0 -
Don't know how much off the top pf my head, but you can get them from Wilko's and A$da
We got the giant tea lights, too, think they were from Asda - more expensive but they seem much more economical in the long run

I lurk mostly but just popping on to say don't forget to be building up your resistance to winter bugs by taking a multivit/mineral and vit D! I'm sure it's already been said, but now's the time to get started for it to be effective!
Happy winter prepping!
my daughter and i have been taking vitamin c daily since march of 2010 (in oct 2009 i had swine flu and i've never been so ill in my life,2 months ill 1 month recovering!) since then we've not had ANY colds or flu, the odd sniffle but nothing else! i'm def going to stock up on vitamin c, especially as we take 2 per day in winter....0
