Thinking ahead a bit, I've planted some herbs in the garden. I know this sounds summery, but I plan to cut some and dry it so I can use it throughout the winter. Beyond that, I'm not really doing too much for winter yet.

At the risk of sounding very stupid, how do you dry your herbs?

Sounds like a good idea. Realising how quick the years are flying by i think maybe a good idea to do the same.

Can i ask how long the flour stores for? and where does everyone store their stuuf?

I'm looking for new thicker curtains for my sitting/dining room.

I'm stocking up on salt for my paths.

I'm going to make sure I have plenty of pasta, rice & noodles in.

I'm going to get some longlife milk just in case.

I'm gettting hubby to check the seals on the doors & windows.

I didn't plan or prepare at all last year, and as OH is a farmer winter is v. quiet in terms of work for him so the more we do to prep for winter now the better. I'd like to get some form of saving plan going for thoughest months of Dec/Jan so we've got spare cash if we need it.

I will need to stock pile - tins and jars if they are on offer will go in there (beans especially) i will get in plenty of pasta, rice, noodles, baking ingredients. I never thought about longlife milk, but as last winter we had days of no food in or money to buy it, this would be a good idea!

Have a look on any bags of flour you have already, there is a use by/best before date.

I kept some for about a month after a date and when I opened it there were weevils in it. Yak.

Am scavenging for wood to build up a store for the burner - seems like a bit of a luxury but much cheaper than having the central heating on.
