Preparing for winter II

There's no heavy snow-fall on its way this week according to the forecasts as the winds are westerlies. This will bring chilly rain but the temps should remain well above freezing, thank goodness.
I'm ready for another bout of heavy snow-fall but I don't want it right now.0 -

I'm ok I have chocolate, pizza and some xmas alcohol left to see me through!
Hope you got the petrol tank topped up whilst you were out.
They reckon it will be going up by at least 3p a litre tomorrow when the VAT increase comes into force. :mad:0 -
I don't drive, but I'm expecting the buses to put up their prices. It's stopped snowing where i am - panic over. My 'mad dash' wasn't because of the few flakes of snow - I am well stocked up with food - but I was in great need of junk food, hence the pizza. That's mad.:D
On a more cold/preparing theme and I haven't read through everything, I bought some of those hand warmer things. I love them, very handy in the bitterly cold weather when your hands are cold. Could be useful as part of a car kit. I got mine off ebay £3 for two including postage - ones on amazon in the link are very expensive.0 -

When the pizza pangs start to niggle, you can make a quick mock pizza simply by putting a couple of slice of bread under the grill, toasting one side, turning them over and smothering with cheese, sliced tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, tiny slivers of bacon, ham, chorizo or salami etc. and grilling until the cheese has melted. Just bung a few olives on top and you've saved yourself a few quid.0 -

I make a similar thing with muffins or crumpets too, yum.0 -
very often, people complain about cold feet and that in turn can make the body feel cold/ a hot water bottle at night is often a very good cure I find/ often, you only need it in the bed for an hour or two -- makes a huge difference and feels snug /BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

I will second that.
It also makes a huge difference if you have one under your feet when sitting at your pc.0 -
^^yes, agreed
just be careful with the water folks/ keep an eye on the rubber too -- it does degrade over time and better to replace/ happened to me twice -- not nice  ///

This one was an activity I used to do with toddlers (and their friends). It was easy to keep a packet of muffins in the freezer, a jar of thick pasta sauce (or HM frozen if I we had any) and a small tin of sweet corn in the cupboard. We always had frozen peas and cheese for grating as well as other misc veggie bits and pieces. I used to put each ingredient/topping in a little bowl/ramekin and let them build their own mini pizzas. Worked a treat and, as an activity, it could last for ages if I grilled the pizzas as everyone went along. They'd eat lots and waste was minimal.

I also use muffins as pizza bases..delicious!
Postman arrived with my snow/ice shoe grips today (less than £5 on Amazon). Have ordered a couple of thermal vests from M&S using Xmas money...so now we are bound not to have snow again:(
My New Year OS resolutions (more objectives for Jan/Feb really) are:
Make patchwork cushions from fabric samples (free) I have been acquiring
Turn foraged fruit in my freezer into jam.
More country walks and nature outings with son (age 5).
Make much more HM food.
