Preparing for winter II

It snowed here overnight! I didn't expect it. We've been forecast snow for days now and nothing! Luckily I got my wellies in from the shed yesterday afternoon so I can walk up the road at least.
It's not particularly thick but has settled.
I remember all those years when I was a teenager and waiting for it to snow. Whenever it did it wouldn't settle and we would always be disapointed. I'm pleased it actually has been settling the past couple of years - it's so nice for the children!
Landlord is coming to finally fix our bath today which will be nice when I can get into a nice hot bath this afternoon.0 -
I have found a new draft from the extractor fan in the downstairs bathroom which I need help with. It is making the bathroom freezing but I know that I can't just block it up!
I was googling and found that you can buy a backdraught shutter like this http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/90/100mm-backdraught-shutter?utm_source=google-base&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=google-base-feed
. Anyone know if you can put one of these in an existing extractor fan? ThanksThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -
Todays offer from grabitnow.com is a folding snow shovel and jump leads for £14.42 delivered. Plus quidco cashback.
My snow shoe grip things haven't arrived yet though....
No snow yet in SE London, but we have a heavy frost. They keep putting back the snow forecast. Netweather is now saying Sunday night, and Tuesday night! Going shopping today for a weekly shop, and a few extra tins of soup, etc.
It's now officially winter as Cbeebies are now playing the snow/winter songs. "Winter Winter, let's all cheer! It's cold outside but it's warm in here."

Hi everyone, have'nt posted on here before, but I read everyday, love all the hints and tips.
We have snow this morning in South Yorkshire.
sb44 that seems an awful lot for 4 hours heating. I can have the heating on low all day and hot water all day (not night) for £2.00.
We have a smart meter from British Gas that shows how much energy you have used/are using and the cost. We had the central heating on for a couple of hours in the morning as usual yesterday but on for a few hours later in the afternoon and it cost just over £3. I can fully understand how people can't afford to heat their homes when it would cost perhaps twice as much as that per day if you had it on most of the day (ie pensioners, sick etc).[/QUOTE]0 -

Yippee, we got snow! :j
Not much, but I think there is more to come and it looks so pretty!
We had thunder and lightening all last night and towards morning the hail started, sounded like golf balls on the roof! So some of the lying snow is hailstones. But it's all white stuff so I am happy.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

We have snow here too-12 miles east of Manchester. I can see the hills and the Snake Pass from the upstairs window and there seems to be less snow up there than there is in our garden!0

Don't forget if you have a radio on your mobile phone you can just switch it to speakerphone (once you have connected the headphones of course) and use it as a normal radio.
Of course you would still have to charge it up unless you have one of those wind up mobile phone chargers.0 -
