Preparing for winter II

What a productive day in this house:
My insulation is doneI can already notice the difference. :rotfl:
I've ordered the new carpets, they're being fitted on the 9th so I have a little longer to get the decorating done.
I've also bought some new floorboards so I can repair the ones that are damaged & block up some drafts
I've also fixed the control dial on the oil heater so I've got that on in the kitchen which is finally warming up
I'm making progress and just in time, it briefly snowed before :eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I think Kittie subscribes to that website... I am sure she mentioned it a day or two ago.
yes and it is absolutely brilliant. We have to travel tomorrow to babysit but looking at the snow coming in later, I doubt we will be silly enough to go anywhere and we`ll be able to let dd know tonight. No way will be able to get up the hills that surround our village
The premium is well worth the cost and tells me that we will have significant falls at about 8 pm v just a picture of precipitation0 -
'Tis snowing down here in Dorset.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0

Nothing in Berkshire yet....
Just saw a poor man slide off his bike, on South Today news
I am fed up with it already and it hasn't even snowed a single flake here
I am scared the outside pipes in the outhouse will freeze up. I've done what I can to insulate them but short of putting heating in there then there is probably little point if temps get really low. Might put my tumble drier on for a few mins before I go to bed and hope the residual heat will prevent a nasty burst pipe.0 -
frugal do you have a timer? I would pit it on for a little while every few hous or so0

the tumble drier?..... yeah that might be a good idea... pricey but not as pricey as burst pipes
Good idea, thanks. I do have one - not sure where it is tho so if I can't find it I will get one over the weekend.
TY0 -

Is it quite accurate then Kittie?
I may subscribe just for a month so that we can keep an eye on the weather leading up to our week away at Christmas.0 -

Do you fancy sharing your knowledge of what is going to happen in Berkshire?
The twins (4) keep asking me how many sleeps til the snow comes :rotfl:0 -
the window sticks out from the slope outside like a box stuck on the roof rather than being a sloping loft window.
QUOTE]
Sounds like a dormer window, it's probably the flat roof that's making the room cold, especially since you say the window's double glazed. I would say any of the usual things to stop any draughts and insulate the ceiling part, and how about a couple of good old expanding shower rails with a fleece blanket stretched from the top to the bottom of the slope IYSWIM? It'll make the room darker but if you safety pin the fleece on you can just drop the top pole down or slide the fleece along when you need more light than heat! HTH Sorry if it's a bit confusing...:o:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -
I have done it.
Spent that day putting up curtain rails over all the external doors. I have already lined them with blankets donated by my mother in law. Place feels dead cosy now.Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0
