With the sovos can you get different colour backgrounds? ie blue?

It just has 3, but they're pretty good. Black on white, white on black, and its default black on a kind of parchment brown.

Of course pdfs will appear as they are. I like the colour as quite a few of my pdfs have photos.

I'm thinking of buying an e-reader for my 80 year old mum who is an avid reader. She recently had a stroke, loosing movement in her left arm so is unable to hold a book/turn pages etc.

Any ideas which may be the most suitable? The easier to use the better?

Waiting for my Kindle to turn up. Any recommendations for a good and (cheap) Kindle cover or case. The one Amazon is selling I find quite expensive.

Waiting for my kindle too - have decided for the time being to DIY a slip case as I don't like the current offerings and would rather wait a bit as a lot more will be coming out in the next couple of month (and see if I can get one as a Xmas present!). Basically, what I'm planning to do is simple: tape some strong card to the outside of a padded envelope cut to the right size to give it some rigidity and then make a simple fabric slip that I can put over the envelope/card combination. Got all the bit I need at home and it shouldn't take too long to do :p

Got mine today and all I can say is......... WOW. What a great piece of impressive gadget this is. I am so glad that I also went for the original cover as although the cover is over-priced, this device only deserves to be embraced by its original case. Hope you enjoy yours as much and would really recommend going for the sturdy leather cover as it is designed to have the Kindle hooked into it from the side so you can open it like a book cover.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

I'm thinking the same for my 69-year-old Dad. He has just about everything but he's a total novice with technology :D M and D have a laptop and my brother is good with techy stuff but I myself, like you, was wondering which would be the easiest to use.

  • ive been reading books on my laptop with the kindle for PC, its not ideal i realise but i would rather put the £109 towards the books then getting an actual kindle. I was waiting for the next in series to come down in price before buying so im pleased ive done this !

  • Which would be best for reading pdfs? I have a lot of IT Technical books which come with a pdf copy. I'd like to put these on an ebook reader but haven't bought one in the past due to poor pdf support.

These books usually contain diagrams so are not pure text.

The Sovos I have is goof for pdfs as it's colour and does a nice job of zooming etc.

Cheers. Just been reading the larger Kindle DX doesn't do a bad job. Plus it has a larger screen for the diagrams. Doesn't seem to be available on Amazon anymore though.

I have sort of half decided to get a kindle but wondered if I needed the wi fi /3GS one or just the wi fi one?

I'm not at all techie and I'm not sure what I'm doing or what I need.

Basically the kindle has all but destroyed my book selling business on Amazon, so if i can't beat them I might as well join in.
