Only cruises - cruise deals for all

They have quoted me £2500 in an oceanview cabin with a total $675 obc, free gratuities, free beverage package. All we would need to pay extra would be night in Hatwich before cruise and parking. I don't think we could get an AI in Spain for that for 3 in Aug.
A couple of excursions or a few evenings in the casino would soon get rid of that obc.;)
Have you cruised with celebrity before?
No, we have done several RCI and MSC cruises but not Celebrity or Carnival. Torn now between the Celebrity deal (it was the cruise we had booked earlier in the year and cancelled but now on different dates and then we were paying £3500 for an interior with no perks) so this is a cracking deal. But we would still have flights to arrange and endure(!) and the baggage issues to deal with.
The Legend is out of Dover and would be just over £2000 but with no perks. I am leaning towards that but DH fancies the Celebrity ship. We are going out to lunch today to try and get it sorted. Are Carnival ships fun?0 -
I trust that you realise that unspent OBC is forfeited at the end of the cruise. Remember you can withdraw $100 from your seapass account from the casino, it has a 5% surcharge but al least you will not lose it.
No I have not used americandiscountcruises only vacationstogo.0 -

It is a few years since we have been on one, they are very glitzy and over the top decor wise (think Vegas - I love Vegas by the way, lol). Apparently the short cruises out of USA 3/4 days and can be party all day and night cruises. But we did a week around the Caribbean with them and loved it, didn't see any drunken behaviour or over the top partying, wasn't a great difference from P&O that I saw. They are more casual with the dress code. I believe they have lots of activities going on for adults and children but we have always just joined in when we want to and rested when we didn't and didn't find it too in your face.
I would love it if the new Carnival Sunshine ship was sailing out of UK in the summer.
The Celebrity cruise on the 16/8/13 that we are looking at goes from Harwich so no flights needed for us. Not keen to fly out to a ship, much prefer Ex-UK cruises, but I would if the price or ship was too good to refuse.0 -
FloFlo, Celebrity is no better or worst than P&O, I would rate them about equal. The Infinity is the sister ship to the Millennium which we travelled on in 2008 around NZ/Aus, it was built in 2001 and IMHO the ideal size, 2000 passengers very similar to the P&O Aurora. It has good deck space for the numbers aboard better than the larger Celebrity boats. Formal night - lounge suits are the norm but many wear just shirt and tie, tuxedos are on the way out too stuffy these days.
I don't like cruising from UK, the weather is against you, I always go to a Med port to start a cruise. You gain so much and avoid the Bay of Biscay, your journey going north in August I expect will be OK but forget Southampton, too many sea days.
I hope you enjoy the cruise and keep some of the obc for the speciality dining as the food in the MDR is nothing exceptional these days although a lot better than AI in a Spanish Hotel.0 -
From our one bad experience of P&O I would say Celebrity walks all over them.
Smart casual most of the time but they may want a jacket in the dining room on formal nights it varied on our last trip.
I borrowed one from guest services on the fly cruise, ex UK I take the DJ.
I think I need to do some quick research we are looking for something June or late July and this 123 offer may be too good to miss.
edit: quick search done
looks like our dates itis not included0 -
On Celebrity formal nights, we ate in the buffet, rather than dress up, or cause Major Ponsonby-Smythe to splutter into his soup due to hoodie-wearing chavs in the dining room.illegitimi non carborundum0

Celebrity has had its problems I can asure you and I once vowed never again to cruise with them, but I'm on the Equinox again next month.
The 1-2-3-Go promotion was to end in January then it was extended to March and then again to end of April. They also say it is number limited so I would expect it to be extended if they are experiencing depressed future bookings especially in Europe as the yanks are not booking like they were!0 -
I think I'm giving up on Celebrity the new 123 Go promo excludes the Infinity in August, I can't get a definitive answer as to whether the other 123 Go promo that was on is still valid until 30th April where you could choose 2 items. It is a pain the proverbial emailing back and forth the US trying to clarify this. I am very disappointed but it looks like I am better off waiting to see if there are any UK advertised bargains nearer the time.0
