We originally had a Celebrity cruise booked for June, but due to family illness we had to cancel (as we had booked via a US TA we got the full deposit back the day after cancellation) but we have a 15 year old and it looked fine for him. That looks an interesting cruise.

To be honest I preferred the Russian itinery on the Carnival but that one would have pushed it with DHs holiday time. The celebrity would mean 1 extra day he would have to arrange off. I am hoping the allure of free beer entices him, it may need to be a lot of free beer as the drive from Wales is 4 hours!

Any recommendations for a hotel to stay at near the port the night before and for car parking at Harwich?

Yes, the Russian ones look great. Sorry, I have never sailed from there. The cruise critic forums will have a thread on it though I am sure.

Not sure if this is of interest but they will also have a meet up arranged they call them "roll calls" and basically anyone who is on Cruise Critic gets an invite to meet up for a drink onboard in an organised event. If there are others with kids of your daughters age it means they can be introduced and break the ice. We have done them on RCI and our son (who is our youngest so now travels alone with us) made a friend that way. Might not be your cup of tea but it was useful to us.

This is a useful site too. At 90 days lots of bargains come up as people cancel when full payment is almost due.

Just had a reply from my email to th US TA on cruise compete and they say they misquoted to get the offers would cost over another $1200 so a bit of a con. Withdrew my interest with that TA obviously, back to the drawing board.

I have just had a quote (you piqued my interest!) for the Russia cruise:

The 12 nights departing July 27, 2013 on Carnival's Carnival Legend
Rates include port and tax(290) per person in USD. Plus receive a 100 total USD onboard credit.
    Inside cat.4E deck 8 cabin 8252
    1259 p/p 3rd - 669 = 3187 total USD

Just over £2000, for 3 in an inside cabin which is good I think.

For the 8th Aug cruise it was £620 each and £700 each around a week ago, prices shot up in the last few days.

report them to cruise compete,, they need to keep the TA's clean

NCL pulled themselves of the site because some TAs were doing dodgy things.

I never find that agent particularly competitive e.g. the Opera 1 June is £379 inside on Cruise Nation (although, unlike cruise.co.uk, they are not showing any OS availability, only insides & balconies)
