Tbh that itinerary was our least favourite cruise. Not sure why, probably because the sea was rough passing Morocco (and I am a good sailor!) and the fact that the ports and the time spent in port meant that we could not get a feel for the different islands. We usually hire a car but the port time was just too short to make it viable. Not a cruise we would personally repeat.

If stuck with school hols I would look at 1/2 terms and Easter, they are often cheaper than the summer holidays, but less choice with only wanting short flights.

If nothing fits then you have the summer as a fall back.

looking at the easter school holiday dates for our area(31march-15April)

    2 Canaries options

NCL Jade 3 April 9n starts around £530pp or £1700 4 share cruise only flights needed to BCN

    RCI Indi 31march 11n around £1160 £4500 4share.(Southampton)[/

Given then the difference in price I would definitely go for NCL and avoid having all those sea days on RCI with the potential of no sun until you get closer to the Canaries. I am sure you can pick up flights to Barcelna fairly cheap but do fly the night before. The port is very easy to get to. I prefer RCI to NCL but I wouldn't think twice about choosing NCL at that price. Don't ge too hung up on reviews as there are always bad ones and you can start to worry too much. Should also say that I have assumed you have searched for a 4 berth. With RCI and NCL it is sometimes cheaper to take 2 x two berth cabins. I would seriously avoid 4 adults in a 4 berth cabin as space is tight - if possible take two cabins as it will make life much more comfortable.

The canaries! Actually we have never done a Thomson cruise, I am not sure they are in the same category as RCI ,MSC NCL etc. They are older ships without the amenities offered by the cruiselines mentioned above, and are often around the same price bracket or dearer. That said the Red Sea itinerary does appeal, so we may try them out in the future.

Favourite was a cruise on RCI out of Venice......

Yeah, thats put me off doing RCI, I dont fancy going from Southampton, risking bad waters round the north of france etc.. coz i get travel sick/sea sick..

We have done the Indi from Southampton, and had no trouble with seasickness, but as has been said you do lose two days of sunshine. There are pros and cons. Pros include no luggage issues, no endless airports queues, ease of access. We loved the ship though.

    Hello all,

May I please ask some advice from the experienced peoples who inhabit this forum?

I have a momentous year coming up with DS being 18, DD being 21 and Mrs and me reaching 50!

As a one off we thought of a cruise, but with me being the sort to get seasick on a boating lake, I assumed the best place for a cruise might be the mediteranean.

Is my assumption correct, (plus daughter doesn't like the flying to start destination but would stomach a 2-3 hour flight) can anyone suggest the best site/company to go with and any other tips I should know about.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Martin

Roughest experience I had was in the Med, just out of Barcelona...although that was a storm, lost power and everything! The Bay of Biscay can be notoriously rough so if departing from southampton can be avoided, do.

For things to do, RCL would probably be your best bet but be prepared to pay for everything!

Ever thought about a Disney cruise? You can get some good deals and I can promise you that they are not filled with screaming kids running around (You'll only notice them at around 9pm haha), there's actually a lot of Adults only areas, seperate pool, hot tubs, cafe, bars, resturant etc. You'd be surprised how many Adults without kids cruise with Disney. The service is impeccable and everything except alcohol/drinks at dinner/tips are included in the price, no extras for the pizza/burger place/shows.
