    Hi, Hope this is the right place to post....

    Right trying to help my Mum and Aunt book a cruise...it will be their first time so was looking for a 7-9 night cruise from Southampton around late May this year.

    My Mum got P&O brochure and was looking at the Oceana however after googling and reading some reviews she has been totally put off of that ship.

    So can anyone recommend a short cruise departing from Southampton late May relatively new ship?

    Any help would be much appreciated :)

    Depends on their ages. If they are in an older age bracket maybe Fred Olsen would be a good line to look at. They depart from the UK Harwich I think though not Southampton.

    If younger, RCI has Independence of the Seas out of Southampton and it is a lovely ship, but very big. We found the crew to be amazingly helpful, more so than on other RCI ships actually. I would initially focus on where they want to go, rather than the ship, and then l would look at the various companies that do that itinerary.

    Princess have departures in early June from Southampton. This is a good site as it gives you all departures. With a short cruise you will probably be restricted to an Atlantic coast, Fjords, Scandanavia, Baltic or Round Britain.

    Ignore reviews, some people complain about everything!

    Cunard also go from Southampton and are full of oldies. My mum said she had never seen so many oxygen tanks in one place :)

    What did they find wrong with P&O?

    If you look at cruise websites you will find it is a bit like trip advisor and you always get drawn to the terrible reviews. Oceana was a nice friendly ship when we sailed last year and we have booked for next Christmas. She is not the newest P&O ship and if you want a very modern and new ship then P&O Azura or Ventura would be better. RCI and Celebrity are all longer sailings although I think Celebrity Eclipse has an 8 night to Fjords in May. If you sail from Spain or Italy will get much more choice of 7 night sailings.

    You can get more info on P&O from their community section on the website.

    24 Night Cruise, P&O Oceana Departing Southampton 26th February 2012.

    Southampton -> Cadiz -> Tripoli -> Cairo -> Limassol -> Jerusalem -> Nazareth -> Athens -> Olympia -> Messina -> Valencia -> Lisbon -> Southampton. (12 Sea days)

    Inside Cabin - £1,567
    Balcony - £2381

    I think this is the "Holy land" cruise. Good deal, great for the oldies, discount probably due to Tripoli being on the itinerary;
    "Note: At this time, U.S. and Israeli citizens and any person with an Israeli stamp in their passport are not being granted visas for Libya and are not permitted to embark any ship that will be cruising in Libyan waters."

    They have not been on P&O its just when we read some reviews about Oceana being an older ship she was slightly put off.
    My Mum really only likes staying in 5 star accomodation, if the ship was like Atlantis, Dubai that would suit her!

    They are in their late 60s but very young and stylish.

    OK she would be much better on P&O Azura or Ventura then - larger and newer ships. They'd probably also really like Celebrity and RCI but there isn't much in the way of 7-9 day sailings with either of these from Southampton as they are mainly 14 nights. Sailing from Barcelona is really easy as airport only 20 mins in cab from the port, and/or you can get fly cruise packages whey they sort flights and transfers for you (although cheaper to do yourself). They should give a specialist agent such as Cruise Kings or Cruise.co.uk a call as they have lots of experience and can provide good advice on best thing to meet needs (don't bother with high street travel agents as they are not generally specialist)
