  • What do you all do with your toilet roll / kitchen roll tubes? I've got a big bag I can't bear to put in the bin, but other than growing seeds I can't think of anything else to do with them...

If you don't need them, see if there are any nurseries/pre-schools nearby who could use them. They are always making robots or other strange things with the kids.

(With the kids - I don't mean 'using' the kids to make the stuff, I meant helping the kids to make them:D If you're anything like me, you'd have jumped on that one :D )

Friendly neighbourhood hamsters and gerbils will recycle them! :D

I've also used them in the past to make candles from old stubs that I've melted in the microwave - they're great as you just peel them away when the wax has cooled down.
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...

I make toy binoculars for the kids from old loo rolls, keeps them amused for hours so I can 'invest' in time here :D

made a desk tidy from old loo rolls - chop off to different heights and cover with wrapping paper (saved from christmas/birthday pressies of course) then stick rolls together on piece of card for bottom.

chop in half and stick together to make a 'honeycombe' style draw divider for sock/tights draw

have to admit though we get through them so fast they usually get used for 'junk modelling' with the kids :)

I think my chinchillas would appreciate them too, but they would eat them, well they eat everything else.

Sorry to be a killjoy but if you are thinking of donating loo roll tubes etc to local nurseries/schools/preschools etc you should check first to see if they will be well received. Some local authorities advise them not to accept loo roll tubes as they could be a health risk! :( (kitchen roll tubes should be ok though.
Also on a slightly more serious note empty egg boxes should not be passed on as children who are allergic to eggs can get a potentially fatal reaction from just touching an empty (used) egg box

Hi, does anybody have a good idea as to what I can do with shredded paper? I don't have animals.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a firebrick, but I want to keep bonfires to a minimum at home. I go camping though.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

It's fun enough doing the shredding.

You could sell it to people who do have animals
