I put my tumble drier fluff in the compost bin.
I used to put the dogs hair brushings out for the birds. At least somebody was glad of it!
Our hair clippings go in the compost and the contents of the hoover.

Here's my list of oddities :

Egg-shells : Soak in cold water & use as plant food. Use soaked egg shells to deter snails & slugs in the garden
Squeezy plastic bottles (ketchup etc): Re-fill from less expensive glass bottles
Soap slivers: Disolve in hot water for home-made liquid soap
Toilet rolls & egg boxes: Seedling starters
    Old holey socks : Dusters
Bicarb from the anti-smell device in the fridge : Save for cleaning or pour down drain to freshen
Plastic lidded containers : Instant tupperware
Carrier bags : Pooper-scooper bags/lunch bags/or...just use as carrier bags!
Coffee grouts : fertlize rose bushes
Old holey face flannels & towels : Cleaning clothes
Husbands used razor baldes : still good for my legs (you need to both use the same type of razor for this to work)
Plastic bottle tops : My Mum's Womens Institute group are collecting these to exchange for a motorized wheelchair for the local hospice

And my favourite : My Nan used to save the water with teh disovled cleanign tablet from her denture pot & throw it won the toilet to clean the bowl & it really worked!!!
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!
  • I save carrot, onion, etc tops & tails, chicken skins from chicken portions from when i am cooking during the week (& bones from KFC chicken if we have a take away)and freeze them. Then on Sunday I make stock out of them to make my soup for work.

No cat now, but used to put out cat fur for the birds to line their nests with (don't think they understood the irony  ). Actually the birds knew that she was too lazt to bother them and used to peck around on the lawn while she was snoozing nearby!

I save all veg peelings to give to next doors rabbits.

If i receive junk mail i keep the reply envelope and put a sticky label over address to send sons dinner money in.

One day i didn't have a sticky label so just crossed thru address with black marker pen. Son wanted to know why his envelope looked different to everyone elses! lol

I saved these until last week. The school that I was in as part of my course was collecting them, however now I have no outlet for them and I'm really annoyed as I'm loathed to put them in the bin.

Oh yes, and I save carrier bags.

Most of the "collecting bottle tops for wheelchairs" things are hoaxes, apparently. I can't find the links I had about them, but if I do I'll post them again.

    okay, here are some examples

    http://www.wasteonline.org.uk/resources/InformationSheets/Plastics.htm#_What_you_can_do

There's also some info about hoaxes like this in general here:

    http://www.shartwell.freeserve.co.uk/humor-site/walkers-hoax.htm#bottletops

I believe a children's hospice, Naomi House, have sold bottlecaps to a plastics recycling plant for cash, but most of the "wheelchairs for caps" type things are hoaxes.

Try asking which charity / company the caps are going to and see if anyone can tell you - if they do, try asking the charity/company if this is true.

crana liked that waste online website, it had some good tips.

Going all out at the moment recycling at home. I think I will ask at work tomorrow if there is anyway we can do more recycling (I work at a newspaper and we already recycle old papers)
