Just remembered another one - shoe laces. Pop them in a net washing bag and wash them in the machine, they come up good as new. I can't remember the last time I needed to buy replacement laces.

  • Fluff for birds nests. Brilliant idea.
Will be doing that. My tumble filter has so much fluff on it, I sometimes wonder there's any clothes left after a cycle!!!

Dont cycle very much now but I used to save the badly punctured inner tubes and cut them into patches for my puncture repair kit.
You can also use them as tree ties.

Old tights, cut into strips (across the leg) make stretchy bands - also cut the thick waistband off for a heavy duty one. If not chopped up, the whole thing makes very good ties for garden trees, rose bushes, etc

Egg-shells : Soak in cold water & use as plant food. Use soaked egg shells to deter snails & slugs in the garden

do u wash the egg shells first to get rid of egg whites before soaking for plant food or are they good for the plants as well?

Hi, does anybody have a good idea as to what I can do with shredded paper? I don't have animals.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a firebrick, but I want to keep bonfires to a minimum at home. I go camping though.

    Any ideas gratefully received.

It's fun enough doing the shredding.

u can buy a gadget that compacts the shredded paper into logs, but they are 15 quid. I have heard that you can soak it then drain it in ice cream tubs with holes in the bottom to make 'logs' for the fire, but havent tried this.

No, the membrane, if that's what you mean, is the best bit apparently! I just chuck them in a watering can & top up with water. Any residual egg white doesn't seem to hurt the plants.
