Can I sell fake GHDs just as straightners - no brand?

Thanks though. x
I know I sounded harsh, but fakes of this nature (and laptop chargers etc) can cause life threatening damage (I have first hand experience). So do the decent thing and throw them away. No ones life is worth £50-100quid. Chances are nothing will go wrong, but for the one chance it does, it can be catastrophic.0 -
I personally see no problem in selling them on, as long as the buyer knows they are generic straighteners and not GHD. As for just chucking them in the bin, what rubbish (no pun intended). They are a perfectly good working pair of straighteners, just because someone has made them to look like GHD's doesn't mean they're worthless and need to be tossed into a landfill! If I were looking for straighteners (not that I am, I have no hair), I would be quite happy to buy a cheaper generic pair regardless of whether they have been made to look like GHD's.
There will be people out there who can't afford GHD's and want look a likes, as long as they know what they're buy I don't see the issue. If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x0 -
To be fair, the genuine GHD's have caused quite a few problems too...!!!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0

Everything has issues, especially electrical's, it's probably the same ratio of faults with the real deal as with fakes. If you're a careful person (ie not leaving them switched on when you go out, bashing them about, pulling at the wire) you should have no issues. We can't continue to dump things in landfills, just because of who made it.If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. Where did you get this 'factual' info?
If they are being passed off as fakes, the chances are they havent passed any safely or UK regulations.
Aside of this, something which is intentionally copied and intended to be sold as as item, when it isn't that item, constitutes that item to be a counterfeit. Selling, posting through the UK Royal Mail system and passing goods on as real (where you know or suspect they are fakes) is unlawful.
Regardless of how good this particular item is, the OP thought she was buying GHDs. Therefore, it is safe to assume (now they are confirmed not to be GHDs) that they are counterfeit, with the intention of deceiving the buyer as being genuine GHD. So therefore, armed with her knowledge, she will be breaking the law to sell, post or pass on this item.0 -
Did you pay with paypal? or credit card?
I bought them with my o2 money card (prepay/top up card - I do that for most online transactions just in case...... lol) which is basically a visa debit. I already asked them if they can help and was told no.
I understand about fakes causing damage, and appreciate the comment thereon.
"There will be people out there who can't afford GHD's and want look a likes" - It's scary how similar they are - side by side there's not one single cosmetic difference. If I hadn't tried to register them on the GHD website I wouldn't have known they were fake. However (for warranty etc reasons) I personally would rather have the real dealAgain though, I know plenty of people who are happy to settle for fakes/generic brands.

That is a shame - I'm running out of ideas now...!
The fake ones tend not to be electrically safe - the cables are not strong enough to take our electrical current
and so they fail a lot quicker than genuine ones. Also the ceramic plates have a habit of falling off...!
Sorry I can't help anymore.Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -

Some visa debits will allow a chargeback within a certain time period. I only know this as we recently bought an item when a company later ceased trading. The visa debit company was able to chargeback the transaction within 180 days. So you may want to ring them again and ask them to chargeback (be specific with the wording) the transaction.
For the record. My wife has GHD and has had them 10 years or so. They were expensive (she went into the hairdressers for a cut, came out being done over in my experience) but they seem to do her hair, the curtains and anything else.0 -
if the product itself does not bear the ghd brand name then they are just generic hair straightners which were falsely represented to you as ghd's.
if this is the case and the straightners don't say ghd on them then just bin the fake packaging and sell them as a simple set of hair straightners......."A wise man once told me don't argue with fools because people from a distance can't tell who is who"........0 -
Sorry I can't help anymore.
Thank you - I appreciate your advice anyway
I'm usually so careful when I shop online, I check out the bit at the top of the page (the http bit) and everything to make sure I'm where I think I am, but I was at work and I did the research bit in the morning then went on in the afternoon to buy them and just didn't give it my full attention. I'm just glad I never use my proper bank card unless it's through paypal - it'd be insult on top of injury if I was ripped off that way too!.•¨¨*:•..•
