hi all
ive been reading this thread for a while and always check my local tesco (gallows corner), in hope for 1p bargins.....instead i found this week....HARIBO sweets £1..reduced from £1.45, 45p savings !!! then noticed that on the packet it said RRP £1.
45P SAVING ?????? HOW???
also last summer, tesco had a promotion on pet food = 3 fo 2,
great, i thought, NO NO NO !!! the price was put up from £3.50 for 6 tins to £4.25, so i wasnt saving anything, i email them but heard nothing.
check your old and new priced first...
sorry for the moan, still looking for 1p though.:o
They always do that with the bogofs and 3 for 2's - put the price up and put it in a different offer. I don't think there's any law against it unfortunately. I'd like to say they think people are stupid, but sadly people are stupid / careless enough to fall for it, so it works. Start watching this and you'll see it's true...0 -
Angela - really useful insights, thanks. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you know what happens if they notice the misprices that are posted on here. Seems that most stores can only update the price overnight, but some newer stores now get updated immediately from HO? Do they send out memos about misprices and rely on stores to update it manually?
Used to be sceptical that they monitored the misprices but realised they now monitor ANY mention of Tescos on Twitter - even people just moaning about a Tesco sandwich - and reply to it, so they have clearly invested some time/money into tracking this stuff.
Well, what used to happen was that the vast majority of price updates would be sent down via HQ between 10pm and 2am each day for the pricing team to action accordingly. Where a price changes during trading - where the change is a price INCREASE, stores are legally obliged to change all point of sale pertaining to the affected product (in all locations, where the product is on sale in multiple locations around the store). Where the change is a price DECREASE, as it's not a legal requirement, it could take the store some time to place the new point of sale out (but they should, given that most shoppers go by price).
There isn't really a lot that HQ can do, because they've already done what they're supposed to (which is action the change on the system centrally, and filter it down to stores). Once the information is in the store, it's down to the store team to action the price change and remove any affected stock, where applicable (in our case - 1p stock - it should be withdrawn from sale). If the store doesn't withdraw the stock from sale, there isn't a great deal that HQ can do, other than jump up and down like a silly gorilla.:rotfl:In the words of the great philosopher Jagger, "You can't always get what you want."0 -
Posting this here as well as on the 'Mega reduction thread' although probably just the same people who read both, so sorry if you're getting a bit of a de ja vu!!
I know Stardrops is pretty well loved by lots on here, particularly on the OS boards, and I noticed it was down to 76p today, and had the RTC on the label, so possibly one to keep an eye on for it to go down more.
There was also some ECover detergent/fabric softener - think it was the detergent but can't quite remember, and it just had a * on the label, which I couldn't remember if I'd come across before so what it means. Also spotted a box of them a bit further along on the very top shelf with a yellow sticker on saying that it was Discontinued. I will double check in the morning exactly what product it was, as can't remember what size/smell etc.
I did scan one and it came up £4.90 I think, so again, nothing yet but maybe one to watch!
(OH would go mad I think if I bought any more washing stuff - still have a cupboard dull of Surf from when it was 51p last year, around June time I think iirc!! Maybe if I shuffled the Shreddies cupboard around we'd have more room!!! lolHalf of November Make £10 a Day Challenge: £51/ £1700 -
Just came across this, which is makes for quite an interesting read:
http://retail.about.com/od/marketingsalespromotion/a/product_pricing.htm
It's all about retail pricing strategies.
Also, this one:
http://www.bis.gov.uk/files/file8127.pdf
It's from the DTI, and is the Code of Practice for Traders on Price Indicators.
And here's what I was looking for....
Section 20 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it a criminal offence for a
person in the course of his business to give consumers a misleading price indication about goods, services, accommodation (including the sale of new homes) or facilities.
It applies however you give the price indication - for example, in a TV or press
advertisement, on a website, by email or text message, in a catalogue or leaflet, on notices, price tickets or shelf-edge marking in stores, or if you give it orally, for example on the telephone. The term "price indication" includes price comparisons as well as indications of a single price. In the words of the great philosopher Jagger, "You can't always get what you want."0 -
i went to my tescos and saw these bags of haribo star sweets and they had a reduced label on it for 5p each. I got 4 bags (50g) real barcode ending 1896. when i took it to the cashier it came though price too high. she took the label off and scanned the real barcode and it came up 1p. my kids were happy :j0

This may sound a bit obsessive but I now track the cost of everything I buy on a spreadsheet & compare prices week for week & between supermarkets. Its amazing how much you get ripped off if you dont pay attention to prices! :eek:Mtg May 2011 - £127,500/825610% CC - £2211/2211Argos Card 0% - £253.95/208.950 -

On the other hand, their strategies are fairly transparent and repetitive, despite the sophisticated and expensive computer models they use.
And whoever came up with the 'reduce to 1p' policy must have been a creative genius ... surrealist :easter_ba0 -
Well I still cant quite believe this 1p deal I got this evening. In my local tesco I noticed Denby 12 piece Blueberry everyday dinner service for £8.00 each, I popped 2 in my trolley, got to the check out and they scanned at 1p each. I think they had been hiding out back somewhere as they were very dusty but I still cant believe my luck now! The lady behind me at the checkout ran back and grabbed the last one. Fingers crossed there are a few more of these lurking about at various stores for others to grab.0
