Remember the 1p low energy light bulb promotion complete with big adverts in the press?
I wonder if members of staff accused customers of being shoplifters when purchasing these.0 -
My store had lots of reduced to clear items today, particularly Head & Shoulders 500ml conditioners with yellow barcode stickers down to £1.50.......alarm bells and bargain warning bells were ringing so I went to the self service but on my way the sticker came off!!!!
What a surprise the barcode underneath was.......1p. So much for the article saying they would sell at 1p, knew it was a lie.0 -

I work on a clothing department in Tesco. I've had several very rude customers DEMANDING stock for 1p.
The 1p stock is for the staff to recognise, on the handheld computers they use, old stock that is to be wasted and sent off to charity. The stock is, in most cases 4 years+ old. It's reminents left over from many seasons ago. These items are usually left in the warehouse, and very rarely on a properly manned shop floor.
There is a a process in the business to get these items off of the shop floor and from the warehouse, but sometimes they gets missed. Whether it's from lack of staff, not being able to get PDAs etc. Finding one item on a large shop floor can take days. Customers and staff can move it whilst someone's searching for it.
So it's not an offer, or promotion - it's simply VERY old stock, floating around in the business from many moons ago. I do believe you are well within your rights to purchase an item if it scans up at 1p at the checkout, as it's legal tender. But you can't demand that an item of a similar description is sold for 1p (like I have been today).
Well it would seem Tesco have very few 'properly manned' shop floors.:rotfl:
And its not taking us customers days to find items - perhaps Tesco need to recruit more price conscious staff from MSE.:p
I also don't believe that anyone has been 'demanding' 1p items, there may be a few thick enough to ask if you have any or to ask to price an item to check if it was 1p. But I guess it gets up Tesco staff's nose that customers are more switched on than them.0 -
MISPRICE ALERT:
There are pink Disney Princess filled rectangle pencil cases marked with a big red sale sticker 'Half price £4.50' these scan at £9 so with double the difference refund they are free. I got 20 -

I very nearly suggested the very same to HO when I emailed them :rotfl:0 -
Putting things down to 1p happens in a lot of shops.I know both Boots and Wilkinsons do it when stuff has been discontinued .At Boots a e-mail gets sent with all the 1p items on and the staff have to take them off sale and send them back to head office each member of staff who does this has to sign to say they have.At Wilkinsons when I worked there things were sold through at 1p but this was along time ago.0

Well it didnt take me too long to find 1p bargains on Tesco.com........within 1 hour of scrolling through I had found the After 8 mints.....and to start with the After 8 straws were also 1p but went back to normal price a few hours later. I then found the stock cubes, french dressing and Chilli pots. Now they are mysteriously gone!!Never buys anything at full price unless completely forced to do so!!! :whistle:0
