    I don't understand why some stores won't sell 1p items. Surely as one poster says, the prices are set by HO.

    I believe that the use of "1p" as a selling price was a means for tesco headoffice to flag up to the stores which items were discontinued and hence had to be removed from shelves. Its quite possible that:-
    a) individual stores thought "sod that"
    b) indivudal stores didnt enforce properly
    c) Tesco has now changed its mind and is allowing 1p sales but this hasnt filtered down to store level who are still using the old system

    result = grab them whilst you can
  • Went hunting last night after work at my local large 24 hour Tesco in Poole and found in the Home Baking isle Dr Ortkers Christmas Gingerbread House[/B] Kit, containing ready made gingerbread walls, tube of white decorating icing, bag of jelly tots and mini m&ms.

    The kit had a SEL of £4.99 and curiosity got the better of me and I checked it on the barcode scanner - yep you guessed it - 1p!!! I took the four that where there and went through the self service checkout with no problems! Will give the kids something great to do on those rainy days!

    Do you by any chance have the barcode numbers for it at all?

    Thanks :)

    Well done! And welcome to MSE! :T
    "Buy me, Lady", said the frock, "and I will make you into a BEAUTIFUL & WHOLE & COMPLETE human being".
    "Do not be silly", said the Man, "for a frock alone cannot do that".
    "True", said the Lady, "I will have the shoes and the bag as well".

  • I can vaguely re-call a time when there was a barcode scanner...but I have a feeling it's not longer there and is now a very useful, highly informative, er, blank piece of wall.

    Note: We've reactivated this thread from last September and updated the deals below with MoneySavers recent 1p discoveries, but have not spoken to Tesco again.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif What's the deal?[/title]
    We’ve had a host of reports from canny forumites that Tesco is selling 100s of items for just 1p. Bargains on offer include Gu cookies, Cadbury Wishes, French's mustard, Paxo stuffing, Head & Shoulders, and much, much more.

    It's worth noting that with people flooding into stores, a few MoneySavers have not had a good reception from staff. It’s worth being aware of this.

    Yet we spoke to Tesco's press office (last Sept) and its official statement was "It’s not a systems error. These lines are discounted stock, they’ve been reduced to clear. The 1p stock is rare and won’t be available in each store."

    So, while every store reserves the right not to sell stock if there is a genuine pricing error, in most of these cases they should sell it to you.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif How to find 'em[/title]
    These hidden bargains are not marked as 1p on the shelves, but scan at 1p when you get to the tills.

    The easiest way to check is to beep the barcodes on Tesco’s price-scan machines. Yet these are only available at certain stores, so the alternative’s to swipe the bits at the self-service checkouts or the till (if it's not 1p and you don't want it, just cancel).

    Do remember that, while many 1p bargains been found in multiple shops, they do vary from store to store. This is a bit of fun, NOT a guaranteed deal.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif Current 1p spots[/title]

    Below are examples of forumites’ current 1p Tesco spots in store over the last two weeks (15 Feb - 1 Mar). Huge thanks for all their help.

    Please press reply to add yours at the thread's end. Do include barcodes if you can, as that helps those without price-scan machines track bargains down.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif Is this legit?[/title]

    The law on this is simple. If your items scan at 1p at the checkout, Tesco staff can reject the sale and tell you it can't be bought. However, if it accepts your money, the deal's done and the product is yours at that price – there is no comeback (unlike when this happens online).

    Buying a few 1p bits as part of a normal shop will help. Yet march up to the counter with 10 umbrellas and 10 shampoos, and the cashier may not sell them to you for 20p.

    BIG THANKS TO SILVERHAIRGRANNY & ALL FORUMITES WHO REPORTED 1p FINDS. (Please thank silverhairgranny below)

    Just bought 24 squeaky rubber chickens at Tesco Leyland.

    The banter with the checkout assistant was class. I don't even have a dog. I just wanted to be the proud owner of 24 rubber chickens.

    They also had tons of the Bird's Rum Sauce. I'd have bought them but I couldn't see myself ever using it.
