Would any of you go as far as to sneak drinks into a pub?

I think too many people do that anyway! :S
But sometimes I wear my trenchcoat and 4 of my mates get in for nothing.0 -
I agree that it's taking the p**s to smuggle drinks into a pub. If you are going to a pub then expect to pay pub prices. I'm pretty skint, but it's not hard to find a cheapish pub, where you can pay about £1.50 for a pint. About 3 pints will last me the evening, so it's a pretty cheap night out.
I find it really sad that people nowadays will only drink to get wasted. I like nothing better than sitting in a beer garden with a couple of pints, but that's because i enjoy the taste and experience, not to get w**kered. I hardly think that smuggling in lukewarm lagers from the offie will have quite the same effect. :rotfl:
I've heard a lot of mention of drinks being overpriced, but i find most pubs to be reasonable. When you consider all their overheads, you can hardly expect to pay Tesco Value prices.
I agree that if you are only interested in getting p**sed, drink before you go out.
However, i do agree that soft drinks are so expensive - if i'm driving i think it's apauling that a pint of coke/orange etc is often more expensive than alcohol, especially when the govenment are spending so much on advertising the dangers of drink driving.
Sorry about my rant, i just think the pub/beer garden is one of our greatest British institutions and i would hate to see them in decline because too many people smuggle in drinks.0 -
my auntie used to get one of those boxes of wine and take out teh inner bag of wine and put it in her handbag. her mates would eat buy a glass and then theyd re-fill from her bag in teh loos- hehe!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0

Absolutely right, its disgraceful. You are practically penalised for not drinking. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
My mate runs his parents pub. 1 litre of vodka costs them about £4.00, and they get about 40 shots from that bottle, which they sell at £2.00 a shot. That's £76 profit from 1 bottle.
A pint of lager probably costs them about 50p I think.
I can go to tesco, buy 1 litre of vodka for about £8.00 and per shot, will cost me 20p per shot, and I'm saving myself £1.80 everytime! That's why people are happy to take their own. I would pay £1.00 a shot in a pub and happily pay £1.00-£1.50 for a pint, but some places are charging upto £4.00 a pint, maybe more, and that's criminal.0 -
My daughter introduced me to soda and lime, ideally in a pint glass with loads of ice and lemon. Very refreshing, especailly when we had the hot spell and in some places I have only been charged 35p. I also order this when I am out with my two youngest, both under age, both cost me a fortune to take out.
Far cheaper than J2Os and squash.
(I suppose if you were desperate you could keep a minature in your bag to add to it)
My daughter of course now derides me for drinking this yet it was her who started me on it!

Yes. I regularly buy a small bottle of coke, add tia maria to it and put it in the freezer a while before i go out. Many clubs dont check bags and i get a cheap night out. Po Na Na in Bath must suffer heavy financial loss from this:rolleyes: Poor them. But i wont feel guilty until they go out of business.0

Think you're a bit out with cost prices (and/or measures) by the way.0 -
Used to do this all the time when I was a student0

I have to confess I've done it too - even since I was a student! I take my own (soft) drinks to concerts because their drinks are invariably very overpriced, and if you're cheering a lot then going without a drink isn't really an option, and I'm usually skint by the time I've paid for my ticket and travel. I've sometimes had my bag "checked", but never thoroughly enough to discover my stash!
I do think there should be some sort of tax incentive to encourage pubs and clubs to sell soft drinks at reasonable prices. It's scandalous that some charge more for soft drinks than for alcohol (quite considerably more when special offers on alcoholic drinks only apply, as frequently happens) when they cost the pubs a fraction of the price. I remember once I bought a lager shandy which was the same price as a lager, and watched the barman pour the lemonade from a supermarket 19p 2 litre bottle!0
