Looking at Ensinger’s order numbers given together with dates one could make the following extrapolations:

    o/n 2183 on 31/12/10
    o/n 2861 on 15/02/11

    average is 23 per day

Closed down on 16th March, so one could assume another (23 x 28) 600+ orders making probably over 3000 orders, making allowances etc for other stuff etc; note though it was only Dysons that Ensinger/Utopia were heavily promoting via Google.

3000 x £110 = £330,000 this is likely to be on the low side as some ordered Dysons at over £200 ea.

Any estimate of “not delivered” orders is harder to estimate but sticking at 80% (tip of the iceberg principle) then £260,000 is not a bad estimate of the missing cash that is obviously no longer in Barclays accounts!

So my original estimate of £240,000 wasn't too far out.

Unless the estimates are way out, I suggest that Suffolk TS are being either naïve (ie hoodwinked), or being economical with the information they are prepared to release.

    PS

Incidentally my order number was 0-802 on 15th Nov, but I didn't go through with the CC scam, so maybe these numbers should be reduced for those those received order numbers but didn't proceed - this one will be difficult for STC to verify unless they contact every single recipient of order numbers - anyones guess as to what % accepted/refused the scam?
  • I like everyone else was fooled by this scam on 18th February order # O-2963, following several emails to Anthony he wrote back on 13th March to say that my dyson DC25 at £219 would be with me by the end of the week. But I guess this was just a holding tactic. I like most liaised with Suffolk TS and really believed that they where trying to help, but afraid that feeling has all but diminished. I even asked if they could at least update their website on 14th April, so that everyone could be kept in the loop on what actions they had taken. They promised that they would update their site on that day but it took a week for them to make the update. I still am not clear why TS have no idea of numbers or cash creamed off by these rogues.
  • I was one of the lucky ones who actually managed to get a dyson. I placed my order on 16th December and my order number was
    O-2066.
When my husband spoke to John Ensinger in February he said that he had gone from 20 dyson orders/week to over 1000/week and that was why he was struggling to fulfil our order. Therefore I suspect that the figure of unfulfilled orders is considerably higher than trading standard are stating.
I base this on the fact that so few people have posted to say that they have received either the goods or a refund.
Good luck to everyone still waiting, more should be done to stop crooks like this from operating.

I also got caught - had an email making promises that are not fulfilled. My order no. 0-2703 9th Feb. Can't believe I was so stupid. Going to small claims court because he needs the injunctions against him.
  • Looks to me like he's finally done a runner! While Trading Standards have continued to 'monitor' him, he's taken our money, had his account frozen (he did have several, which seemed to come as a surprise to Suffolk TS) and now his website has closed. If, as has been claimed, he was swamped by orders and knew he couldn't fulfil them back in January, why did he send me an email immediately after I'd paid him on 24th February saying he was happy to deliver it to a new delivery address? This belies the claim that he was trading honestly. Until Suffolk TS recognise this man is a fraudster, the police will not investigate; now is the time for a criminal investigation, since it's clear none of us are going to get our money back - let's get him convicted.

I contacted the Police weeks ago and they came back to me on the 17th April saying they were taking no action, I was to deal with John Chaplin at Suffolk Trading Standards. They haven't discounted taking action against Utopia but at this time they are leaving it to Suffolk Trading Standards to sort out. I emailed John Chaplin and he did not respond to me, as far as I can see nobody wants to know and this man has all of our money:(:(:(:(
  • The recent figures sent in add up to an alarmingly high figure.

We can only make a 'guesstimate' of course, using the figures we have, and satisfied customers would have no need to read this forum so we cannot ask them if they exist.

This represents a huge loss to the Dyson company, as some of us will be forced to either repair the old one or buy a cheaper product from a competitor. I personally cannot justify spending about £500 in total on a vacuum cleaner.

Until a couple of days ago the website was still advertising Dysons at the same price I paid, and stating they were in stock. This must be untrue and illegal. I too have been unable to get on to their website today.

I fail to see why the police are taking no action, and would like a daily update from Trading Standards as they have been aware of the situation for several months, and just seem to pacify us and want us to go away.

    I ordered a DC31 on 10th December 2010, order no. O-1857.

I did eventually receive mine on 13th January after lots of calls, emails and more calls to their accountants.
Sorry to hear this thread is still going, good luck.
  • Just thought I would post again. I suspect their are lots of us still watching this site but not posting regularly. I ordered my Dyson on 7th December. Hundreds of phone calls and emails resulted in the usual rubbish from Ensinger and still no Dyson. Trading Standards are useless. No wonder people get away with scams if they aren't even prepared to deal with one as bad as this! What other avenues are open to us at this stage?

I've still not got my refund even after submitting a claim via small claims court on 1st March. I have today received from the Bury St. Edmunds County Court a General Form of Judgment or Order that Mr. Ensinger had not signed his stament of truth and that unless he complies by 6th May he will be debarred from defending further.
Will let you know if by any miracle my money arrives, but won't be holding my breath and to take the matter further will be costly.
PS. My payment to this rogue was on 10th January, 2011
