vikingaero wrote: »People have called this a scam. Is this a scam? In my opinion it isn't. Poor trading yes. Goods are being supplied but after a long lead. I imagine that Utopia bulk buy - so they have people ordering, the money goes into their account, then they order when they have enough for the minimum to qualify for a bulk discount. Of course this means that those who paid money in first will wait the longest. And if people complain on MSE then Utopia Private Message them and supply them to shut people up - at the expense of those who may have ordered first and not complained. Hmmmm.
Interesting theory - one question though, orders in December were under £100, now the price is much higher, won't Utopia make a loss on these early orders? Or are they subsidising the early orders by the later ones (rob Peter to pay Paul!) - what do you think?
Also You say it isn't a scam - there are several definitions of scam. To defraud: yes there is no absolute proof yet that they have actually defrauded anyone. To deceive: well to make an offer which they know is untrue, ie., the CC option and to say its in stock is definately deceiving punters, so in this definition it is a scam?Jennifer Re:- My Post #336
I phoned all the available numbers at Utopia and left messages to call me back about the order. I also emailed twice with the same message to both the sales and shipping addresses. The Dyson was supposed to be delivered yesterday 28th Jan.
you make the point most succinctly. Exactly my experience too - glad someone else had the courage to avoid the extra discount invcentive.Dorzov Like many of you I have been awaiting delivery of the Dyson DC31 I ordered from Utopia in early December. After various delaying emails from John / Anthony (is this the same person?) I have heard nothing from them for over a week and have now requested a full refund by email and I will be following this up with a letter by recorded delivery.
Well done having the courage to cancel your order - please tell us when you get you payment back.0 -
 Another week has gone past still no Dyson. How can this man continue to trade and not be stopped by Trading Standards ???0

Re my post #339 - my Amazon order arrived a 0800 this morning - 1 working day delivery and £129.95 as stated. Dyson is charged up now and ready to use, (it takes 3.5 hours)!!
I feel sorry for you waiting for delivery from Utopia.

Ordered mine on 29th November. got the usual story and paid by bank transfer (yes I know!). Anyway, after 9 emails from me to John, sales, Anthony etc (could not get through on the phone). Got my money back today:j
This was after threatening legal action through the small claim court (this was not an idle threat.
My advice
1. Do not have anything to do with this company.
2. If you have paid, persist and if need be carry out any threat of legal action.
Hope this helps.0 -

Congratulations on this post, as it gives others confidence to cancel their orders.
I would also suggest you speak to your local trading standards office, the more that do the more likely Utopia will be told to amend their practices or even closed altogether - it takes quite some time for Trading Standards to investigate cases (too long); and like any party in the UK they are innocent till proved otherwise, hence the more complaints the better.0 -
Still waiting since begining of Dec, and not heard anything from 22nd Jan. Wanting to go to trading standards - but which one do I go to - theirs or mine???0

Having done this once before, I was told your local one, they then feed them in centrally. You can ask them when you speak to them how it works etc.0 -
Hi all,
He gave me a fedex tracking number on friday and he promised i will get it by monday/tuesday. I called Fedex Tuesday evening and the package was still sitting in Utopia.
My patience ran out and I cancelled my order. I called him and asked for my refund and he said it will be issued.
Earlier today I get a cheque through the post with my refund.
I have now ordered my Dyson thru another company.
He sounds genuine but I cannot conduct business like this with being concerned every minute worrying whether I shall get it or not. I would rather pay extra £10-20 and getting it on time.
But that doesn't mean he is a scam artist just unreliable or got his hands too tied up with little staff. He did mention he was waiting for more stock to arrive as it's low in the market.
Good luck guys and also keep on top of him by calling him everyday or every otherday.0
