I mistrusted condoms after DD2 so opted for the depo injection. It made me an even moodier cow but was worth it for peace of mind. It failed .MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

I was in a v similar situation to you, I tried 2 types of mini pill (micronor and cerazette) and found both lacking - with both my sex drive was v low despite being newly married, and I just felt wrong. I actually didn't like the fact that with cerazette I didn't have any period type bleeding for a year. I came off when diagnosed with PCOS and actually found condoms better, if a little less spontaneous, but it wasn't an issue.
Now happily pregnant (planned) but have said to DH I won't go back on any kind of pill so it will probably be back onto condoms for us, and the snip for him if we get as far as a 2nd child.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
I had the copper coil fitted as I cant have the pill etc, it has no hormones and I had absolutely no problems with it at all, was the simplest thing all around, took about 30 seconds for it to be fitted, mild stomach ache for about an hour and I had it fitted for 3 nearly 4 years. And no problems with fertility being effected either as it was taken out in the november and I was pregnant within 4 months0

certainly wouldnt just rely on condoms, yeh some people have been lucky but thats it, sheer luck.
see your gp and try a few pills, yasmin works for me while microgynon made me hormonal spotty and put weight on. yasmin is a newer pill and works for people with bad skin. i havent got bad skin but it also made me lose weight i found.
or have the implant, possibly the best contraceptive you can get without any mad symptoms or anything else, as from a relative whos a gp and working with gps, id say defo look at the implant0 -
I don't think lucky is the correct way to describe it. Careful is more approriate, and I think that was rather a silly comment to make, its not just the OP who is reading this, and this country has a huge problem with STIs especially with younger women. There's nothing wrong with using condoms as a contraceptive method, especially if you have problems with other contraceptive methods. The only thing which is 100% safe is abstinence. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

you can be carefull as hell but that doesnt mean it makes them any more reliable just like the pill ie, forgetting to take it, being ill and so on.. i work in the industry of sex workers and sex education from young persons upwards and condoms are given out freely yes for health protection but in a long term rship for some, they are not practical ALONE if you dont want any mistakes happening im talking in terms of pregnancy/unwanted pregnancy. the best ways are pill/coil/implant and then condoms if you want to be extra safe. it really is different for each person.
yes 100% safe is abstinence but lets see how many people in the real world this effets.
'lucky' in the respect that people who have used condoms for years have never had any issues or 'mistakes' but this doesnt happen for everyone so no offence it isnt a 'silly' comment its a realistic one. if you have problems with other contraceptions in this day and age there are ALOT of variations to at least try before condoms are the last resort only.0 -

Yes but at least if a condom fails (splits/comes off) then you are at least able to take action to avoid unwanted pregnancy (i.e. MAP) - if you accidentially fall pregnant with one of the 'best ways' of contraception (in your opinion) it is not quite so easy to take action retrospectively because you are unlikely to be aware that your contraception has failed.
To be honest in my opinion it is a bit of a worry that you work in an industry that advises young people in sex education :eek:0 -
Have you tried a Persona monitor from Boots? I used it for years before hubby had the snip.0

ALL contraception has a chance of failing, I conceived this one on the pill (admittedly in retrospect it's not surprising it failed as I have celiacs which stops absorption of nutrients - only the hospital told me wrongly the test was clear and didn't write to my GP - so found out about the celiacs when I was 15 weeks gone - as GP said afterwards the biggest surprise is why it didn't happen sooner - had tests done in August 2008 found out the correct results in May 2010)0

I know you mentioned you do not want to put hormones in your body but have you considered the implant?
It is a similar hormone to the injection but as it lasts 3 years it is less concentrated.
It is fitted on the underside of your arm and you have to have a butterfly stitch as there is a little cut. Your arm will ache for a few days but after that you can forget all about it for 3 years.
I am now coming up to my 2nd change and really like it.
I used to have injections but forgot my appointments etc and I don't want any more children. so moved to implant.
Hope you manage to find some form of contraception which works for you.
