London to Southampton on a very cheap advance/mega train ticket but now need to leave at Eastliegh, then at London buy a Southampton Airport to Eastleigh single $1.70 and hand that to the gripper on the barrier and smile as you pass thru.
Well said. Dont forget to smile at geordieracer as you pass throughI all have learnt is from others on many sites.

i dont see how the train lost any moneya s they claim as they paid to go further than whyen they got off there ticket ws valid to that destination
It doesn't matter, breaking the restrictions of a railway ticket, ie, traveling peak with an off peak ticket or on the wrong train with an advance ticket, is a great little money making scam for the train companies, which they use to good effect to increase revenue/profits.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
The cost of traveling on any public transport these days is insane
I would love to leave my car at home and get the bus or train, but it is probably cheaper to drive.
I know they ticked that they had read the T&C, but seriously, who reads ALL the T&C on EVERYTHING they buy/use/sign?
(I'm just giving my opinion, be nice)

Again they travelled to/from Eastleigh. The fare for 2 people rtn to London from Eastleigh is £54. They paid £12. Can you now see how the train company lost money?
Ill leave you all with this - especially those who keep saying 'See them in court' - The train companies very very very rarely lose. In fact most of them like to brag about how they win all the time and East coast has just followed other TOCs in the past by printing up posters claiming they have won every case that has gone to court.
King you could tell me to jog on all you like as most of my stations have barriers so it would be a penalty fare for you and given that the BTP are always close by im sure they would make sure they checked your details too just in case you were lying.one of the famous 50 -

http://uk.megabus.com/terms.aspx
I've just taken the time to read the megatrain terms and conditions (sad, I know, but I prefer facts to speculation), and can not find anything which says people have to stay on the train until their destination.
Edited to add - maybe this is the clause we are arguing about
"Bookings are only valid on the journey(s) and places stated."
Further edited to add - and that clause doesn't make sense, in terms of the English lanuage.
Further edited to add - According to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage
16. Starting, breaking or ending a journey at intermediate stations
You may start, or break and resume, a journey (in either direction in the case of a return
ticket) at any intermediate station, as long as the ticket you hold is valid for the trains you
want to use. You may also end your journey (in either direction in the case of a return
ticket) before the destination shown on the ticket. However, these rights may not apply to
some types of tickets for which a break of journey is prohibited, in which case the relevant
Train Companies will make this clear in their notices and other publications.
If you start, break and resume, or end your journey at an intermediate station
when you are not entitled to do so, you will be liable to pay an excess fare. This excess
fare will be the difference between the price paid for the ticket you hold and the price of
the lowest priced ticket(s) available for immediate travel that would have entitled you to
start, break and resume, or end your journey at that station on the service(s) you have
used.0 -
Maybe if the train companies didn't try and rip their customers off with unreasonable train fares, then people wouldn't need to find ways around paying a full fare.
To visit family 150 miles away it costs £46 return journey. I can hire a car for £34 for a weekend and £30 fuel. £64, £18 quid more to have a car for 3 days, rather than go on a cattle wagon and have to change trains 3 times.
It's a joke, public transport costs need to be reduced if they want to get more people to use them.9/70lbs to lose0 -

You print a rosy picture of train companies, oh admin fee £30 to send out a letter. Let me try.
Type in name and address 1 min, click print. Stuff in envelope add stamp 1min. Cost of my time £5 max. Plus postage and paper i will call it £6.
Money making exercise.
And I normally have a ticket unless my plans change and I have to either go further than planned. I would like to see you try and fine me if I had a valid ticket from A to B and stayed on the trian to C. But didnt have a ticket from B to C. Think I will see you in court and your 100% cough cough record would be torn to pieces.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.

then why bloody sell them a ticket for 12 .00 in the first place
Because you will get fines for farting as its not allowed in the TOCs.
Yeah I will sell you a really cheap ticket but as soon as you deviate from the TOCs you can be fined for it.
Really all they should have paid as the train fare from Southampton to where they got off.
Its another scam but from railway companies.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.

Geordieracer, you seem to have put this on the forum just to provoke an argument. You also seem to take great pleasure in the couple's misery.
Whilst I agree with you technically, as the couple did break Ts& Cs, it does seem rather sad that they are 'done' getting off early. Not exactly encouraging people to use their railway is it ? I also believe that the fine was totally out of proportion with the offence but that is a different story altogether.
Before you have a go at me, I also work on the railway, in a front line job that has to deal with some of the idiots that sadly travel on the trains. Drunks, druggies, !!!!!!!!!!s, cheats and general low-lifes ! They cause us a lot of misery and only ever seemed to be let off with a slapped wrist 'until' the next time.
It is a shame that the management seems to revel in a couple getting fined disproportionately but doesn't put the effort in keeping the real trouble makers off the trains and making it a safer environment for everyone - staff and the travelling public. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0
