Oh yes very fair, is it me or is this madness? Really you work in the industry, don't you think this is completely pathetic? I would tell them to go and a take a long walk off a short pier, and dare them to take me to court.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Whilst i think its pretty steep its well within the rules. They clicked on agreeing to the T&Cs which clearly state in point 4 that it is only valid on the stations printed on the ticket - not anything else. They got charged double the single fare to the next station each. That is what the penalty fare rules quite clearly state if your travelling without a valid ticket.

They had a valid ticket that went beyond the station they got off on, for example if you bought a return ticket on a bus, and got off two stops early, should you get a penalty fare for doing so? In theory the train company could have sold those two seats and increased their profits, there was no loss to the train company getting off early, so if I was the travellers in question I would fight it all the way to court!

you can try and fight them all you want but the train company are in the right. They sold them disgustingly cheap tickets and with that comes very strict rules and regulations - no different to airtravel or any other service that has tight restrictions on the price that you pay.

I suggest you stop trying to be an !!!! and actually try and understand that Terms and Conditions on your travel tickets are just that.

  • It's not like they got back on to go from Eastleigh to Southampton. Maybe they should of said it's an emergency, it would be a lie but at least they wouldn't get fined for it.

Of course you would take a parachute to get off a plane early, you wouldn't be able to even board a plane without the correct ticket, so the comparison is not there!

The tickets sold and the price is up to the train company, they want people on trains they give a discount, the terms in this is pathetic, they got off early, there is absolutely no loss to the company involved, so if they bought a return because it was cheaper than a single, would they get a penalty for not travelling back at all ?

You know what i think happened - That they couldn't get the Megatrain fare from Earlsfield and intentionally bought the Southampton one to get a nice discount thinking they would never get caught. And they did so deserve everything.

As for the Airlines - if you turned up without checking in online and with oversized bagage for Ryanair and they fined you would you pay it or tell them you would take them to court because you thought the T&Cs were unfair?

You know what I think ? You are putting a motive behind this when probably there is none, there are 2 stations near me that are equal distances , if I caught a train from swansea to cardiff for example and got off at neath on the way back, why should I penalised for getting off early when there is no loss, I've paid to go to swansea its up to me to get off, if this went to court i'm sure they would lose.

As for the ryanair thing, since when has excess baggage has been a fine ? You have choice whether to pay to board with the bags, and when you buy the tickets for them you know the terms as they tell you with your ticket, or if bought online they tell you in big writing in an email and when going through the process of buying online, wonder if the train company told these people the same ?

on the way back you can break your journey without fine its in the terms of carriage , on the way out you have to complete the whole journey

i think unfortunately they got a jobsworth
i do think its a riduculous amount of money and the fine should have been proportionate ..

No, you can not with advance tickets.

They decided to buy cheap tickets, ignored the restrictions and got caught. If they didn't want restrictions then should have bought more expensive FLEXIBLE tickets.
