Afternoon all,

Hope things are going well for all school / college starters and returners.......

I have actually been quite productive today:T:j:D (first time in about 2 weeks!) and have cleaned the bathrooms, polished our bedroom and taken some bits back to sainsbugs. Might even get round to polishing the baby's room, but its unlikely now as backache has set in.

Redruby - sorry to hear about the mistakes this morning. At least OH was supportive. If its any consolation, we've all been there - I tend to try and do too much, then suddenly collapse in a tearful heap like a 5 year old when it all gets a bit much :o Not my finest hour!:rotfl:

I had a lovely day with hubby yesterday. We had a bit of an arguement in the morning over silly little niggles (soggy bathmats and no bread out of the freezer etc etc:o), then realised that we were being silly and it was just the high emotion of the baby coming soon which had stressed us out. So, we ended up going out for lunch somewhere new and having some time just for us, and abandoning the jobs that we had planned to do. The restaurant was quite relaxed and had lovely views out over a lake and the food was good and their carvery was very nice. I think we'll definitely go again :) We then spent the rest of the day watching films and the latest series of Bones that OH has recorded.

We were given loads of home grown veggies by some friends yesterday which was really kind of them. We've got loads of spinach, some tomatoes, a pumpkin, some chillis, a marrow and a cauliflower. :j I think i'm going to make a spinach quiche and roast some tomatoes for dinner one day.

I also thought I'd do caulifower cheese, and hubby wants to make soup with the pumpkin. But i'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do with the chillis and the marrow - I have never cooked with or eaten marrow before. Any ideas from you fab OSers would be gratefully received......:D

I might end up using the chillis for a super hot curry to bring on labour! (Though apparently the idea that curry brings on labour is a load of twoddle - our antenatal teacher explained that the heat in the curry can make your stomach cramp and bowels empty, which can occasionally set labour off if your baby is ready to be born anyway. Similar thing with pineapple).

Anyway, enough of my waffling. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Ali xx

redruby - sure - I can't offer any advice myself as it was some years ago and I was only taking notes for a student, but I will see what I can find out (my mum works in a sixth form college, so will know who to ask). Most colleges have a pretty good student services department who should be able to answer any questions she has about the course structure. It may be that the college course is a feeder for a local university course or placement. She could ask about the progression of the previous students on the same course as the college should have a record or at least an idea as to what former students went on to do after they completed the course. Ask about things like work placements too; as with any course in any subject, work placements (and relevant other work, like spending your spare time working with young people) really do give you an edge for further study/work (everyone will have the qualifications - quite often it comes down to "what else have you got!").

back from work and done an hour at the gym :A

my new tea, coffee, sugar cannisters and biscuit barrel have arrived from tesco direct along with a bedside cabinet for DD2, so i have tidied the kitchen and rearranged everything to put my new things in :j:D
redruby i thought about putting up the cabinet ready for when DD came in from school , but after reading what happened to you , i thought i would leave it for DH :D
((hugs)) to you , i'm exactly the same DH is a little slow to do things sometimes and i think bu@@er it ill do it myself and usually end up in a pickle :o
as for your DD there are always opinionated people who think they know best, it sounds to me as if your DD is being very sensible and mature about her future career and lets face it its hard enough for them to get employment as it is , so to go in having relevant experience and courses is a fantastic chance for her , not everyone needs A levels x

celyn that cake is amazing you are incredibly talented :T

falady never mind curry , s*x works everytime :D;)

pasta and garlic dough ball for tea - yummy

I have done the bed thing too, in fact I still have the odd scuff thing above my headboard to prove it. :o I am inpatient and live alone so try to do everything myself and have the bouts of disaster and tears too your not alone :kisses3:

Today has been an adventure, once more i suffered from insomnia and pain last night so was tidying my study at 2am this morning. It has now reached a semblance of organisation, good job really as my mum just popped across with a box for me.

YAY the first installment of books has arrived for my Open Uni course. They are all new and shiny and scary as hell.. Hope to make time tomorrow to sit and peruse them organise my folders and calm the raging torrent of panic I am feeling.

Had a bash at the flylady daily clean for the day and am quite proud of what I have achieved considering. I am going to try and acheive as much as I can before I am laid up post gallbladder operation. My first consultation is not until 6th October so I have a month probably before I get a date.

Tonights dinner is rice salad (found I have enough to supply half of Lincolnshire in my cupboard inventory yesterday). I am going to add in some sweetcorn and peas from the freezer, some chopped veggies from the salad tray and cooked chicken. Then shower it with a light fat free dressing. Nom nom. No shopping required!

Ok enough of my gabble for now time for long hot soak before I cook. Not sure if it helps the gallstone pain but it makes me feel better.

Hugs all round

(Oh - and why do people offer hugs and spoons?)

Hugs are obvious, but spoons are not, so here's a link for you:

Hugs to you Lisa and ShySarah and all those in need.
ShySarah I also use the flylady thread to motivate me. It seems to be working as normally I would have given up by now - but am still making little in-roads week by week. If I carry on I will get there, I'm convinced.
A melon fell off the plant overnight (think it might be the last), so (didn't save it for the 3dgs) noticed a recipe by Diana Henry for melon & feta salad. So, that is what we had for lunch using melon, chilli, red onion & mint from the garden and olives and feta that weren't from the garden. It was delish:)
Dinner is moussaka from the freezer (using aubergines from the garden). We have a couple of almost usable aubergines on the plants so will make more moussaka next week.
Hugs to all in need, cheers for now x x x
