Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for munday 6th September 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier![*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine

Morning.

Big day here today with lots of emotions flying,,, and its raining!

Youngest returns to school for her last year before college. Next one goes to college but opted for a better college 20 miles away. So she will be packing her bags and lodging with a good friend of ours from church, so we are losing one. She is being all big about it @I am moving out kind of teen stuff, but I see the cracks appearing last night.
OH car needs an MOT, so that will cost money

I am trying to plaster the end wall of the house, but its raining....

Did have a bit of cheer yesterday afternoon when Air France called and informed us that our flight was cancelled. We were going to Chicago in Oct and it was cheapest to fly Bristol - Paris- Atlanta- Chicago. More flights and 6 hours longer, but saved £200 a ticket (weird isn't it). They called to say the Atlanta - chicago flight was cancelled and replaced with another with a 5 minute difference in departure time. 5 minutes!!!!!
After a bit of chatting it turned out that as they made the cancellation I was able to change the whole flight to get a direct flight from Paris - Chicago for no extra charge. Saves 6 hours and nothing else to pay.....:j

Well time to make one packed lunch! One used to be 4.... Help I am getting old:eek:
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Morning N9eav & all to follow

Monday again :( they come round so quickly - mind you looks like another nice day out there :j

Plan for today is office work this morning, housework this afternoon, early dinner then take DS boxing. Think will attack the front room today - hasn't had a deep clean for sometime.

Ironing is up straight :T but I am sure will be doing some more washing today.

Ikea meatballs, homegrown pots and peas for dinner - am going to stick to my meal plan this week!

Off to make everyone a cuppa & get them out of bed - have a great day.x
  • Morning all
Off to work soon, I wonder what this week will bring?
Hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup & full of cooked breakfast, jerk chicken for tea, I saved some that I made to take to BIL's.
DW emptied, washing's over the maiden as the weather looks a bit iffy today.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Hi everyone. N9eave - they're all the milestones of life. I never thought I would live in a house without children but mine have been gone for ages now and have homes and families of their own.

Good luck to all those who are starting new schools and colleges today, and to their parents for whom the day is just as important!

Well, just one more sleep now until we leave for the UK. Needless to say, I'm am now really excited - just hope I can get all the packing done in time, especially the wine and garlic for the friends we are staying with! For some reason, the boat leaves an hour earlier than usual, so we have to leave here an hour earlier for our 4 - 5 hour drive to Caen. Luckily, our destination is Southampton, just a twenty minute drive from the ferry port at Portsmouth. I love the drive up through France, though; the roads are nearly always empty no matter what day or time of day it is, so, apart from the horrendous French drivers (I feel safer on British roads!) it should be hassle free.

Dinner tonight is some of the bacon we bought from our newly-discovered local pork farm just five minutes from here. The Cumberland sausages we had yesterday were the best I've ever tasted, so the farm is a great find. Lovely Gloucester Old Spot pigs, and the meat produced right there on the farm so we possibly couldn't get fresher or more local. We will get stocked up again when we get back here.

Well, after days and days of wall to wall sunshine and high temperatures (29 degrees yesterday), it has actually rained this morning. It will do the garden good, though. Our neighbours will keep an eye on it while we are away.

Anyway, I hope to pop in again before we leave and I'll try and log in now and again while we are away.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    Morning all,

Bit overcast here today, looks like we are due more rain later on. Have got a small wash to put on this morning, will hang it on the airer.

Need to hoover downstairs today, and clean the kitchen, lamb chops for dinner, with cabbage, corgettes (home grown) and mash for the others.

I still have some soup left which I will have for lunch,,dd and I made up 6 wraps for her lunches last night so all we have to do is lift one from the freezer each night, so much easier.

I am so proud of my dd, she wants to be a social worker, and has worked out which exams she need to do to get on the college course she needs, and this will allow her to apply to uni to do a social work degree, she went to dinner with my sister and mum yesterday and they spent the whole time telling her she was doing it wrong and that she should do A' levels instead, dd came home in tears , not one word of encouragement from any of them, makes me so mad.

Anyhoo, today I will be finishing the spare room :j, it seems to have taken months :o, but all I have to do is painters mate the window and skirting, and then I can get the blinds and curtains up and do the finishing bits and bobs :T

Will start either the lounge next or the study, would like both done before xmas.

OK better got on have good days all xx

edited to say, Kathy safe trip home, have a great time, and enjoy the grandchildren xx

    Hi Guys!

Long time since I posted on here again.

DD is supposed to be starting her final year today, but has been on antibiotics since last Tuesday for a throat infection and is still poorly. OH is taking her to GP's when surgery opens at 8am. Her tonsils are still nearly touching and left ear painful...hurts to swallow etc etc. Think I'm going to ask OH to be cheeky and ask GP to check for auto-immune problems as she cut herself 4 weeks ago shaving:o and its still sticky.

OH's leg is not looking good and we see the consultant again in 2 weeks. More MRI's on knees and elbows now and he isnt convinced that the operation has helped.

I wont even start with my health:D

WM has been on and is in TD as we are due heavy rain. DW is currently on and downstairs is pretty much done. Toilets are cleaned.

Have 4 hospital visits this week............lucky me! Have doen an online order at Mr S with a £12 off £60 spend which is coming tomorrow. Luckily I needed washing powder and other storecupboard items to make it up. I love their frozen lamb mince 1kg for £4 as this does 4 meals padded out for us, so ordered 2.

Dinner tonight is sausage, mash, HG runners and peas.

    Take care everyone.

  • Morning all, looks nice outside at the moment and the sun is shining but rain (forecast) is on the way so I'm hoping that if I stick my washing out shortly before I do the school run it will get a bit of a blow before the rain arrives.Luckily not a great deal to get dry but I don't want it hanging around all week.NSD today as I am shopping from my cupboards as much as i can this week.Nothing urgently needed to buy at the moment so staying away from the temptation.
I'm trying to finish one of my charity blankets this week as next Monday I have to have my grotty arm bandaged up for three weeks as my special deep lymphatic drainage therapy starts to try to reduce the size of my bad arm.My therapist has told me it will work ,but it will mean I have to go to the clinic daily for re-bandaging.Still the PCT have funded it and it apparently is necessary so hopefully it will give me more mobility eventually in that arm.
School run this morning with the boys so I had better get a wriggle on I hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers chums

    Cheers m'dears,
Had a lovely weekend in the West Country, so saw lots of rain yesterday morning. Also weren't at all OS. Getting back down to it now.
Meals will be from freezer as I need to make space for plums, damsons, apples and pears. All meals must be accompanied by beans until further notice, although now the weather is cooler they will start tailing off.
Morning to N9eav, Essex-girl and Hester, ETA all the other posters who posted while I was writing. Safe journey Kathy good to see you posting again PennyPincher.:T

Morning all - chaos reigns here - but it is more me rushing round ensuring that everything is done. Washing went on last night, so is on the line, both boys in their new school uniform - looking soooooo smart!! Packed lunches made, bit of research on the net done. I am going to get soooo much done today without my little "helpers"! I have various bits and pieces to take to the skip, dogs to walk, unpacking still to do!

Had leftovers for tea last night so everyone had something different. Today its eggs & chips, and I managed to pick up some bargains at Morrisons which I froze individually so that will provide snacks for lunch boxes. Hugs for any parents who have littlies starting school today - I know that my boys will take to it like ducks to water. XX
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning N9eave & everyone else :)
Sunny-ish start here - must be an omen of some sort cos the babies are STILL asleep!!!!!!! Had a cuppa in peace with DH, first in more than a year!!
Got to nip into town, get a small 'school' bag for DS3 who starts nursery tomorrow, OMG! Baby will be 1 in a few weeks too - really don't know where her first year has gone.
Did loads of gardening the end of last week, so lots of greenery to take to the tip, ironing nearly up to date (again for the first time this year!), just a bit of washing to do. Other plans for today include bramble picking; they're going in the freezer until I've enough fruit & time to deal with them. Think some will become bramble brandy for Christmas presents, some turned into jam & the last few go into crumbles & pies over the winter - yum yum!
Hugs & kisses to you all & have a good morning - will pop back later.

    A xo
