If you still have the dog bedding either remove it or wash it thoroughly, and make sure you treat the areas where your dog used to spend most of its time.

Given the weather for the last couple of weeks many people have switched the central heating on and this is when flea problems increase. It might take a month or two to get rid of them as you are going to have to keep getting rid of the adults. The decent sprays are horrible to breathe in, make sure you do it on a nice day when you can open all the windows and go into the garden.

So sorry to hear about your loss.
  • thanx to all for your advice as you can imagine its been an awful time, & having this to deal with after she's just left us, hubby's gonna hoover thru everyday whilst I'm at work, if nothings changed by Thurs when I'm next off then we're going to try the recommended Indorex - thanx again everyone
  • as in Indorex that was recommended? - but how do I get rid of the adult fleas that the indorex won't kill

it wasn't el cheapo supermarket own brand - Dr Bob Martin I think the stuff was called
Bob Martin is ineffective. It doesnt contain the right ingredients....which is why it doesnt work properly.

There are numerous good products that you can use.....ask your vet or call Rent-o-kill.

Insectoral will kill adult fleas as one suggestion.......you can also try many many natural products that will help. Citronella and pennyroyal, for example, are not liked by fleas so some essential oil placed in some areas will drive fleas away......back outside.

Lots of vacuuming, wash all loose covering that you can at a high temperature and give everywhere a really good clean.....wiping a small area of skirting board, for example, then thoroughly wringing out the cloth.....hot soapy water is fine as insects cannot stand soap and detergent.

Any flea you find and can catch, drown it in a glass of soapy water. In fact, if you leave a bowl of soapy water on the floor in an area whrere you have a lot of fleas, you will soon see fleas floating in it. This is becasue they are attracted to the warmth and jump in. There must be a tad of washing up liquid in it though as fleas can jump off the surface of just water.

Without a pet......they will soon be gone.

Hiring a carpet shampooer isn't essential but may also be a worthwhile step. Other than that spray, vacum lots including any crevices, put a bowl of soapy water with a heat lamp over it in the room, remove or burn any suspect bedding etc

Sorry, just having a good old giggle at some of the latter flea removal suggestions :rotfl:

I prefer to spend just £12 and 15mins of my time spraying my house and know for certain I will be flea free for another year :p

  • Right - as pointed out - the Dr Bob stuff from the supermarkets hasn't worked - been hoovering & emptying bag everyday but still the little blighters are here

Did the bowl of hot soapy water in lounge last night - not 1 flea this morning - hooray I thought, sat down with my cup of tea & a little blighter jumped my leg!

So back in work tomorrow, work next door to Boots so will see if they sell either the Acclaim or Indorex, if not ordering on-line when I get home

    Definately buy something.

Hoovering alone would never sort the problem.
